News from The Topside Grill Pub

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to let you know about the entertainment we have tonight and tomorrow. Of course, still home to the $4.95 margarita and the best Mojito’s this side of Cuba…

Tonight I have Greg Lutrell playing at 8:00 until close. He is a singer/guitarist from Boston via Detroit. Luttrell is an outstanding guitar player and his voice has been likened to Marvin Gaye, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder and Brad Nowell. It’s his first time at The Topside, but has played in the area before. http://www.gregluttrell.com/

Tomorrow night, I have Gloucester’s own John Jerome starting @ 9:00. He’s a Gloucester LEGEND already and puts on a great show with covers, originals and all around great music. Hope you can make it!

Thanks,

Gloucester Band Boosters Donation

The Gloucester Band Boosters are group that supports instrumental and string music in Gloucester Public Schools. An organization of parents, businesses and community members that provides funding for much of the expenses associated with the Gloucester elementary school band, string ensemble, as well as the O’Maley Middle School Concert, Marching and Jazz bands.

The Boosters frequently provide music for civic celebrations and events such as Pride Stride. They are still providing this and many other important community services with our young musicians. Victory Agents, The Studio, and the artists participating in the summer series, are pleased to donate a portion of the proceeds from our shows, to music programs and education in the Gloucester schools.

SAFETY

Sunday, July 11 live at The Studio on Rocky Neck

The summer series’ second concert will feature SAFETY, a live 80s dance party at The Studio.  SAFETY, produced in the summer of 2008 by Dan King, of Gloucester, has fast become a local phenomenon. What started as a small theater act has turned into a popular favorite with fans from all over the North Shore and beyond. SAFETY is a party wherever you are, playing all the good hits from the 80s and some you may not even know you missed.

Lead singers Ann Marie, Kascia Murray, Guy Fiero and Brian King make your favorite 80s hits all their own, singing spot on renditions of everything from the Bangles to the Pretenders, Cindi Lauper to David Bowie, Talking Heads to the rarely covered neo-soul group, Soul II Soul. Keep an eye out for new covers from Michael Jackson, Human League, The Cure, The Clash, and Billy Idol.

SAFETY also features a dynamic rhythm section with Tony Goddess on Guitar and Keyboards, Dan King on Bass, and Dennis Monagle on Drums and Vocals. Add the fine keyboard work of Fiero, Brian King and Murray and this 7-piece group becomes a powerhouse of sound. Dance, dress up, eat and help support the Gloucester Band Boosters! Ten Foot Polecats strip down to 2 as Jay & Jim being their crazy brand of Hill Country Blues to Gloucester for a night of songs about love, lust, death, murder, god, satan and chicken & ribs

Thursday -8:00 – close ~ Ten Foot Polecats

Ten Foot Polecats are a punk blues band with their deep roots drawn from the North Mississippi Hill Country.  Even though they are basically in their sophomore season, they have made quite an impression on the National and local music scenes as they are currently one of the few blues based bands booked across the region in the rock, blues, punk, rockabilly and psychobilly circuits.  They have also been recently signed to the Hillgrass Bluebilly Record Label out of Austin, Texas. Known as a record label that is at the forefront of the raw & primal roots revolution movement, Hillgrass Bluebilly, and Ten Foot Polecats seem like a perfect match.
Nationally, Ten Foot Polecats have been showcased at the 2009 Deep Blues Festival in Minnesota, The 2008 & 2009 Keene Music Festival in New Hampshire, the 2008 Boston Music Festival, and are scheduled to appear in the 2010 Muddy Roots Festival in Nashville, Tennessee and 2010 Heavy Rebel Weekender in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  They have also toured the United States in 2008 & 2009 and played venues from New York City to Seattle and have shared the stage with such nationally known acts as T-Model Ford, Kenny Brown, Kent Burnside and The New Generation, Bob Margolin, Wayne Hancock, Billy Joe Shaver, Black Diamond Heavies, Left Lane Cruiser, Cedell Davis, The Scissormen, Robert Cage, Elmo Williams, The Goddamn Gallows, Sasquatch & The Sickabillys, The Koffin Kats, and more.
“There ain’t a lotta scrappy-ass electric juke-joint blues comin’ outta Allston (Massachusetts), but this dirty trio’s first full-length album makes it seems that the Charles River is a direct tributary of the Mississippi as The Ten Foot Polecats add muscle, blood, and heart to a genre in need of all three.”
– Ted Drozdowski,  Boston Phoenix

My favorite live band.  If I could follow them all over the country on tour, I would. Just a  few of  their songs that do it for me big time. Also, check The Topside Grille further down on the blog for some more info on these guys.

Five dollar Margaritas and & Parties

Hey everyone,

Fiesta started Wednesday night and goes all through Sunday in Gloucester! If you’ve been, you know how much fun it is, if not, you gotta check it out! Between the Greasy Pole, entertainment, food, and drinks, it has it all!
We have a few things going on at the Topside this weekend as well. We are now home of the $4.95 16 oz. Margaritta. Great food specials all weekend and great entertainment. Thursday, I have Samantha Farrell swinging with her band at 8:00 till close. Based out of Boston, her new album “Luminous” was produced by one of the members of the Dave Mathews Band and was ranked #7 on the national pop independent iTunes charts. Her music has also been featured on the TV show “One Tree Hill”
Friday, I have Jamie Kent playing at 9:00. His music is drawn and inspired from the likes of Jack Johnson, to Johnny Cash and even Frank Sinatra. At only 24 years old, he’s definitley on the rise. Hope to see you at some point this weekend. Bueno Fiesta!!!
