Open Jam is back tonight hosted by Joe Cardoza and Dennis Monagle! And, live music every other night as well! See you there.

After we have been travelling, we often find ourselves at Minglewood on Rogers Street for a meal or a drink. It feels like coming home when we walk in and are greeted in a friendly manner and offered a seat. Most recently we stopped in for dinner which included mango salmon sushi for Jim and a quesadilla for me. We also had dessert from the specials menu: strawberry rhubarb shortcake (for the sake of this post, of course). We had built up a number of Serenitee points so we were able to take advantage of cash off our bill (win-win). We chatted with another nearby couple who were cashing in a birthday reward from Serenitee which is a REALLY great deal. Highly recommend the Serenitee reward program: Info at this link.

So fun to watch these birds waiting for the whale to bubble some food.

We had an outstanding day with Cape Ann Whale Watch on Friday. I had seen there has been a great deal of whale activity out there as the whales are returning to their feeding grounds so I was anxious to get out there ASAP. Friday was beautiful and we even had GMG Contributor Donna Ardizzoni and Rick on board with us. It was a very memorable trip, even the captain (John C) and crew (naturalist Tina, Joss and Jace) were thoroughly engaged in what we were observing. We watched some feeding behavior then the whales (6 of them!) became curious and approached the boat. They stayed with us for quite a while, swimming back and forth under the boat and popping up on the other side to the delight of every single person on board. We saw pec slapping, rollovers, heard trumpet calls and more. They were so close, I could only use my phone so here are some videos that I took. You can see additional photos and story details at Pat D’s Photos and Adventures on Facebook. THANK YOU Cape Ann Whale Watch!!! Can’t wait for the next adventure.

The Magnolia Library and Community Center welcomes the public to stroll the beautiful neighborhood of Magnolia and discover some of the great music Cape Ann has to offer at our third annual Porchfest. The porches of Magnolia will be rockin’ from 4 to 6PM, Saturday May 23, ending in Knowlton Park near the beach for another 90 minutes of live music. In addition to the music, there will be popular food trucks scattered throughout the neighborhood and restaurants 525, Grillfriends and JD Myers Pub will be open.
PorchFests are events where a neighborhood connects porches with musicians for an afternoon of music. Audiences can stroll from block to block taking in local sounds. The PorchFest concept began in Ithaca, NY and has spread around the country and beyond with 234 known festivals – almost 40 of them in the New England area.
For more information including a map of the porches and a list of musicians participating in this year’s Porchfest, visit www.magnolialibrary.org/porchfest.

What an amazing day on the water for a whale watch. Rick and I went on the Hurricane, Cape Ann Whale Watch on Friday morning. The whales were amazing and we feel blessed to have seen a display of whale behavior.
These beautiful Humpbacks were spouting, actually a thunder spouting, which I actually got wet. ( I feel honored to have been soaked with the spout). The behaviors were slapping, turning, feeding and entertaining the whale watchers. These beautiful creatures were so close, did not need the long lens. Feeling blessed to experience such a wonderful display of mother nature. We would like to thank the crew of the Hurricane.
