My View of Life on the Dock
A Room with a View. I love the view of the Essex River from the bar at CK Pearl on the causeway in Essex.

This is one of my favorites places to stop and take a look near Farnhams on Eastern Ave in Essex. In fact, my CB (crystal ball) image took second place recently in the most recent Essex in Bloom photo contest and is one of my all time favorite images. The skies have been amazing recently. Every night we remind ourselves what a blessing it is to be on Cape Ann.

The kitchen is more than a place to prepare meals, it’s where families come together. It’s a place for guests to gather, and where memories are created. When designing this kitchen, our primary focus was on selecting the right materials and colors.

In honor of Gloucester’s 400th Anniversary, you are invited to join in a special musical performance on Friday evening, October 27th at halftime during the Gloucester High School football team’s final home game of the season!
Gloucester City Councilor Jeff Worthley has organized a fun performance of the Gloucester High School Band, O’Maley Middle School Band and their guests. The High School and Middle School bands have been practicing and will be ready to welcome 50 additional local musicians who can capably play the four chosen songs to join them. The expectation is that local musicians will commit to joining the students, download the respective musical parts, practice on their own and join in a brief pre-game rehearsal on the Newell Stadium bleachers at 6 pm.
At halftime, the GHS and O’Maley bands will take the field with alumni and other Gloucester musicians to entertain the home crowd with some fan favorites including the GHS Fight Song. Gloucester High School Music Director Cole Lundquist, O’Maley Middle School Music Director Carlos Menezez, City wide Elementary band and interim O’Maley Middle School Music Director Jaime Klopotoski, Former Gloucester Schools Music Director, Cape Ann Community Band and former Cape Ann Symphony Manager Dave Benjamin as well as Gloucester fan favorite and organizer of the Gloucester Fish Cakes Paula Burns are extending this invitation to their networks with hopes of a lively performance!
Parents of these groups will be getting information shortly. Getting the word out to other local musicians is the biggest challenge at this point so please help us spread the word. For local musicians wanting to join in this musical tribute, contact GHS Music Director Cole Lundquist at 978- 281-9870 or Jeff Worthley at 978-836-0423.

Fall is maybe the best time to take a cemetery stroll with the falling leaves and long shadows. The Old Graveyard or Old Burial Ground in Essex behind the Essex Shipbuilding Museum Archives on Rt 133 is a perfect example for a fall cemetery stroll. As described in my handy “Guide to Cemeteries in Essex County, Massachusetts”: Small cemetery well maintained. Some stones seem to be missing and a few broken. Contains graves of the first 3 ministers of Chebacco Parish (Ipswich). My stroll seemed to validate those conclusions. It’s an easy walk and feels VERY historic due to the layout and the older tombstones. There’s more information and even a map available at this link.
