As the birthplace of the U.S. fishing industry and the site of the first marine railway, Gloucester has been a beacon of maritime innovation and culture for more than four centuries. The Seaport Trail invites locals and tourists alike to immerse themselves in Gloucester and Cape Ann’s rich history, encompassing art, innovation, culinary delights, and a medley of adventures by sea, from schooner sails to whale watching.
Central to the Seaport Trail is a celebration of the abundant catch-to-table seafood offered in Gloucester and on Cape Ann thanks to the city’s active working waterfront, and home to the largest lobster fishing fleet in Massachusetts! Autumn in Gloucester promises an unparalleled variety of high-quality seafood options. Try lobster like you’ve never had it before: atop an angus beef burger, nestled in a quesadilla, lobster linguine, baked, boiled, rolled, bisqued, and more! Not to mention other timeless local favorites from the sea, like baked haddock, fried clams, fish & chips, a tuna reuben, ceviche, and seafood stuffed baked pineapple, to name a few.
“The Seaport Trail, highlighted through video and promoted digitally, is intended to make it easy for visitors to learn how to experience our history, art, award-winning cuisine, and famous passion for the sea, in all seasons,” says Discover Gloucester Executive Director Tess McColgan. “This trail embodies so much of what makes Gloucester unique and true to its roots. We’re proud to share that authentic spirit and local stories through the Seaport Trail.”
