I’ve been singing the praises of this app ever since Rick Doucette touted it on the GloucesterCast Podcast.  It’s so easy to use.  You buy a beer, a six pack, a case of beer, or a glass of wine or a shot, you take a picture of the receipt, and they put money in your account.  It’s that easy.

FIVE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS CAROL COUNTDOWN: THE PRETENDERS “2000 MILES’

Beautiful live version of “2000 Miles” – it’s easy to imagine she’s singing about a soldier coming home for Christmas.

Crazy weather came in late Sunday.

As my daughter and I were taking a walk on Sunday, we could actually see the cold front coming in. With the wind and clouds it was crazy and of course fun.

Free monthly community meals at West Gloucester’s historic Church in the Wilderness. Your office space could be there, too!

Photos from October’s community fellowship meal, held monthly Fall into spring at West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church, 488 Essex Avenue, Gloucester, MA. Church and Veterans Office volunteers cheerfully hosted and the food was yummy– corn chowder, grilled cheese sandwiches and a pumpkin trifle for dessert. Next meal is Wednesday January 4, 2017.

The history of the “Church in the Wilderness” dates back to colonial times, finally established in 1713 because of geography, taxes, and laws. The Church has recently renovated a second floor office space/artist studio that was available to rent (not residential). All utilities included. If you rented there you could have an easy commute to join in that fellowship meal.

2015…Have your “selfie” a Merry little Christmas!

Today’s card is from just last year and was probably one of the easiest ones we’ve done…everyone brought up a favorite “selfie” on their phones, slapped them down on the table with a string of mini snowflake lights and boom!  Done!   Wish they were all this easy!   Only a few more days left before Santa comes!

SUPER MOON, HOWLING COYOTES, FLYING SWAN, SONGBIRDS GOING CRAZY, AND BEAUTIFUL BRACE COVE DAYBREAK

rocky-neck-smith-cove-daybreak-copyright-kim-smithLast Tuesday was a photographer’s magical dream morning. After photographing and filming December’s “Long Night’s Moon” descending over the Gloucester city skyline, I turned toward the east to see a peaceful daybreak scene over Rocky Neck. Perhaps the sun hadn’t fully risen I thought and hurried to Brace Cove. The sun had rose behind Brace Rock with just enough clouds that it was still pretty, not blasted out by too much light.

I then walked along the edge of Niles Pond, meeting up with Mr. Swan who was occupied with his morning swim, which often indicates he is readying to take flight. He did, and with movie camera in hand, he circled the Pond before landing at Brace Cove, near the breakwater.

Eerily, the coyotes were howling in the distance, actually howling, like wolves, and for quite a long while. I often hear their meet-and-greet yipping and socializing barks that they make shortly after sunset, and too the terrible sound they make when killing a creature, but I have never heard them howling in the morning. I wonder if it had something to do with the full moon? Do our readers hear coyotes howling regularly?

Tufted Titmouse

Further along the Pond walk there was a large flock of American Robins and they, along with a lively group of Blue Jays, Tufted Titmice, Song Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, and Cardinals were hungrily eating every berry in sight, so much so that when I returned to the same spot a few days later, there wasn’t a berry or fruit to be seen. A magical morning at a magical place we’re fortunate to call home.
