Ave Maria may not strike some as season appropriate, but I have them both on my Christmas play list. I love the Schubert Ave Maria and Barbara Bonney’s is the most beautiful ever recorded. Sadly, her recording is often mistakenly attributed to Maria Callas (look on youtube for yourself). Two extraordinarily beautiful and uniquely different voices, its difficult to understand the erroneous attribution.

Hi Kim,
Barbara Bonney does have a beautiful voice, but for me there’s no one to compare with Callas. The richness and tone of her voice are perfection! She brings me to tears sometimes.
Best to you,
Mim Frost

Merry Christmas to you Mim and so nice to hear from you 🙂 I couldn’t find a recording on youtube of Maria Callas singing Schubert’s Ave Maria, but I am sure it would be magnificent!
