This may have been the Seine Boat with hibachi and keg.. Notice there are two extra passengers. The one in the bow is the bartender, and the one in front of the cox is the grill chef. Rowing is always a good time. If you’d like to row, visit Home page: MaritimeGloucester: Oceans of Discovery, Gloucester, MA
That’s where I rediscovered the joy of rowing.

What a great photo! I’m sure I could handle a keg or hibachi better than an oar!

Ann, there’s nothing better than a grilled piece of meat and a cold beer when you’re on the water. It’s like a moving picnic.

Yes Joe! I love it when I get it right. Although my photo doesn’t show the grill hanging over the side or the discreetly stowed keg, they’re aboard and in use. In the bad old days, there weren’t many rules, and you think these Gloucester guys would follow them? Hell, I wouldn’t. The image of this huge lumbering boat plowing thru the Atlantic Ocean with a smoking grill and keg of beer is still seared into my memory 22 years later. One ton of muscle power needs to be fed and lubricated, just like any ship’s engine. Thanks so much for your comment Joe Balbo, and I’ll be happy to send the photo to you in digital form. Fred

We finished this race rowing with our dad in a Dory. Finished dead last. With all of the kayaks and and modern tech vessels cruising to great finish times, we took over 7 hours to complete the challenge. The most amazing thing was everyone waited on the beach and cheared so loud we could hear it while rowing around the jetty. What an honor to have rowed this race with our dad. Loved every minute.
