  1. They usually last about a week once they can’t fly. It’s sad to see them kicking around. Frank actually tossed that pollock head to him this morning out of Joe Mondello’s bait box.

  2. most fishermen hate those birds ya know? when i worked for chuck he would kill one with the gaff and put it on the roof to stop the others from landing on the boat or attacking the bait. maybe i am just a softee but one had a broken wing and i kept it in a tote for a week and would feed it every day, but joe’s right they only last about a week after the wing is broke . once i had my own boat i had a rule, keep the cover on the bait and if i catch you throwing anything or killing a gull on (my) boat your fired !! one kid left the cover off the bait and the gulls were having a feast, he saw them and hit one with a bouy stick . it was and early day for me and job hunting for that kid. lord knows they can be a pain in the butt but they have their use also. they are great fish finders, want to find bluefish ? look for gulls. want to find tuna ? look for the gulls eating baitfish . you get my drift. so this is for the people who think seagulls are ugly and nasty, what good do you do that helps fishermen ? my point ! nothing ! so hit yourself with a gaff and lay on the roof so you will keep all the rest of the jerks like you away. shawn
