This is why restaurants and restaurant patrons should be horrified that Sysco is buying Restaurant Depot

The second I read this when it was announced I railed on about how bad it would be for small restaurants especially. You broke it down perfectly. For people grasping to make comparisons- look at what has happened locally when the big supermarkets started getting bought up and consolidated. Supermarkets consolidation happened with debt, debt costs money and that debt cost gets pushed to the consumer. When Supermarket competition was reduced because the supermarkets were getting bought up and without competition, it was even easier to push food prices up. Remember prices at Stop and Shop and Shaws before Market Basket came to town? If this happens to the food supply chain for restaurants, their food costs will go up and they’ll have to raise menu prices or squeeze their already thin margins. This is a nightmare for restaurants and restaurant patrons.
