Festival of the Trees in Manchester by the Sea

This is the second year of the Festival of the Trees in Manchester. The trees were set up and strung with lights today (Sunday) and will be decorated between 4:00 to 7:00 PM this Wednesday 12/03/2014.  Trees are set up on the green in front of the Town Hall and are sponsored by Town merchants and groups within the Town like the Boy Scouts, the Athletic Association, the Hooper Trust and many others.

Last year there were a total of 24 trees decorated and lit. This year there are 45 trees! The official tree lighting ceremony will be next Sunday December 7th with the lighting of the Friendship Tree and the Festival of the Trees at 4:30pm. It would be wise to arrive early and get a good spot as if last year was any indication, this year will be an even larger celebration!

These will also be great times to walk through Town and finish, start, or develop ideas for Christmas presents as you walk by all the shops.

The Friendship Tree and 24 Festival of Trees are lit!! – Manchester

Sunday evening was the official lighting of the Friendship Tree and the 24 trees in The Festival of Trees on Manchester’s Town Hall Common. A huge crowd had packed into the Congregational Church (SRO) for a 3:00 PM concert of Christmas songs and music, and then spilled out to fill the Town Hall Common and see the trees lit. They joined an already growing crowd who came for just the Tree Lighting and everyone brought the kids!

Festival of Trees Update

A lot has happened since last Friday when the trees went up, but there are still a few trees to be decorated. Some groups are showing a little imagination with their trees… All trees are to be decorated by this Friday December 6th.

The Friendship Tree will be lit Sunday at 4:30 PM at the First Parish Church on Town Hall Common and the Trees in the Festival of Trees will be lit right after.

Festival of the Trees Manchester November 29th

A newly formed group made up of downtown merchants in Manchester have formed the Manchester Mercantile. In order to promote the Christmas season, create a festive atmosphere and plant the seed to think locally when shopping, they are organizing the first Festival of the Trees hoping to make this an annual event.

The plan is to decorate 24 8 foot tall Evergreens on the Town Hall Common. Groups (Hornet sports teams, a Middle School art class or make up a group) will be provided a tree and a string of white lights. The rest of the decorations are left to the imagination of the groups and individuals decorating.

Trees will be set up for decorating which will take place between November 29th and December 7th. The number of trees is limited so people are encouraged to sign up early.
