Roundabout proposal for Tally’s Corner

Public meeting Thursday, September 15, 6pm.

Rotary  vs. roundabout: The flyer drawing doesn’t convey the look of the 2 big rotaries nor the crazy crazy thrust the vehicle into a giant pin-ball machine experience of Beverly’s recent build. Whether the quaint English village conjuring that ’roundabout’ conveys or classic MA descriptor rotary, any Tally intersection discussions aren’t new. I’ve seen other plans and heard people express variations on a soaring pedestrian bridge as a lift connecting Main to the Boulevard and expansive view of the harbor.

I’m interested in plans and public space and regret that I can’t attend. It’s the same date and time as Open House at O’Maley Innovation Middle School.

How to create pedestrian friendly cities while maintaining necessary vehicular traffic is a challenge. It will be great to hear feedback from the presenters and the community. The flyer and drawing is just that, a rendering. Plans take forever! The boulevard recent reconstruction at the Cut as one example began in discussions pre-1999.

Here’s a coloring sheet. What would you do? And renderings dated February 2015.

From a planning perspective: “Does the investment action help to encourage sprawl or does it invest in your community?”

BREAKING DRAMA NILES BEACH: TRUCK STUCK OVER SEAWALL

Thanks to the heroic efforts of the Tally’s crew, police, and especially Brendan Hendrickson who had the most undesirable job of being in the driver’s seat, the truck (with Maine plates) was pulled to shore without what appeared too much damage to the undercarriage.

Bad Day? Nah! Plus I had a Visit from the Elf Child’s Daughter.

I was having a great day until I parked near my gallery on Main Street, put the keys in my pullover fleece jacket, grabbed my backpack, fed the meter, and then realized "OMG, no keys!" They had slipped out of my pocket before I got out of the Jeep. Can this ruin my day? Not if I don't let it. I went next door to Bananas, which keeps a spare key for me. Once inside, I got tied up with people, including a special friend, Bonnie Goodwin, youngest daughter of the Elf Child. She's the minister of the church in Truro, Cape Cod. My car troubles - What troubles? It only gets to you if you let it.

The Solution. Call AAA 800-222-4357. It took the young man from Tallys of Gloucester (http://www.tallystruckcenter.com/) less that 15 seconds to break into my car and hand me the keys, with no damage. I had to shake his hand. Loyal AAA member since 1991. Worth every penny.

Playtime with the Magic Man

Tally’s seems to be the main (or only) tow truck business in town. I don’t know much about them, except that they have really cool trucks. Here is one. I like the custom paint job on the side!

Heres a closeup.
