February 15, 2022 Looking for Hibbard

Thinking about all the colors in snow with light and shadow, and artists impressions of white, prompted a brief mission to Cape Ann Museum followed by a Rockport confirmation pass. (I know the Motif has been rebuilt and situated, and the Hibbard hill is fancy. Still. The thrill of tracing is immediate here!)

Cape Ann and Monhegan Island Vistas, CAM temporary exhibition did not disappoint and marked a rare stop since pre-covid. In January 2021 I was masked and looking at another Hibbard on display at CAM.

Winter white out storm: snow, rain and wind– gusting big & horizontal which means snow accumulation tallies will drift here. Plows have been out for various first passes.

not molasses crinkles, yet:

What’s in a name? This Dec. 17, 2020 winter storm is called Bailey (which is nice timing wise with George Bailey It’s A Wonderful Life), and winter storm Gail.

Stay safe. We’ll see what happens after 1pm.

#GLOUCESTERMA SNOWSTORM HIGH TIDE EASTERN POINT LIGHTHOUSE, BACKSHORE, GOOD HARBOR BEACH SURFERS, TWIN LIGHTS, AND TURKEYS

At sunset this evening, the skies cleared for a bit and one could see the snowstorm departing in an easterly direction, while more squalls were beginning to blow ashore from the west. The nearly half-Moon was rising over the marsh through the clouds. Swells along the backshore were larger than average, but nothing nearly as dramatic as the waves during a nor’easter. Perhaps the waves were bigger on the other side of the Island.

Although I didn’t get a snapshot, the small flock of Wild Turkeys was leaping about at the base of a bird feeder, hungrily looking for food. Which was actually pretty funny because grace is decidedly not a characteristic shared with these large-bottom birds. I wished I had a handful to give them.

schools CLOSED Tuesday #GloucesterMA ❄️⛄

Forecast for the winter storm this first week in December is troubling enough to call the first snow day for the 2019-20 school year.

Gloucester schools closed tomorrow 12/3/19

Rubber Duck Clapping in the Snow

Rubber Duck went for a swim yesterday on January 1. Today she was so excited about the snow so she went out to the rocks and started clapping.

It’s only 2 minutes and 25 seconds long. Pause it and let it load, crank the speakers, then let Rubber Duck rip.

Homeward Bound

Homeward Bound

From Monday night’s snowstorm, Smiths Cove, Gloucester

Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought’s escaping,
Home where my music’s playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.   ~ Simon and Garfunkel
