Jay Albert knew the answer to this, but said he’d let someone else get it. So…Pat answered “at the launching ramp behind the high school” which, of course, is the right answer. Congratulations, Pat! Next week’s gotta be harder!

iPhone Silliness
I got a gel cover for the phone and it comes with these clear plastic sheets to protect the screen. There are little numbers in the upper corners with no instructions. I figure I can do this. Wrong! Air bubbles and dust on the now repositioned protector. When I got home, I googled and got a video explaining the whole thing. If it’s that hard to do, how am I ever going to figure out how to shut off the alarm!!??
Where Zat #27

Some of you will know this…. maybe! It’s not on the main road to anywhere. Good luck and thanks for playing!
Turning 60 today!
Ok… I’ll admit it. This year has been agony for me. From my birthday last year until a few weeks ago, the twinges of another milestone birthday were gnawing at me. But just as the big day was drawing near, I started thinking about the good parts of the age I’m at. So here goes….
1. I remember the very beginning of TV. A little roundish box with squiggly lines, but so much fun to watch. I thought June Cleaver, Spanky, and all were really black and white people!
2. I went to school when kids went home for lunch and believed that “Duck and Cover” would save us from the Bomb.
3. I slowly discarded my parents conservative beliefs of the 40’s and 50’s and found my own path.
4. I listened to WMEX and the Red Sox on a tiny transistor radio. Arnie Ginsberg and Curt Gowdy.
5. I knew every stat of the ’67 Red Sox and followed the games faithfully through thick and thin.
6. I lived when we all took piano lessons and were expected to sit through the hour long sermon at church. I think I counted 120 tiles in the ceiling of the Congregational Church in Magnolia.
6. We jumped off the pier, went to the beach, “borrowed” dinghies to party on the Island. Sunscreen? What was that?
7. I got married early, had two kids by the time I was 20. I got to grow up with them through the late 60’s and 70’s. Little hippies! Now I have 4 active grandchildren, and I’m still young enough to pass on all the great music, the Mystery Rides, my love of nature and learning, and stuff that I’ve learned along the way.
8. I lived when music was moving in a new direction. Actually many new directions. In come the Beatles, the Stones, Cream, Traffic, Led Zeppelin, Janis, Miles Davis. They changed our world, and those who have passed on left their legacy. My grandson loves this classic music, and it’s great to listen with him. I love today’s music too. John Mayer, Mastiyahu, Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, on and on on my Ipod. Thanks to my friend Skip, I’ve gone to 3 concerts in the past month. Tonight we’re off to see Phish again!
9. I’ve come to know and love toys. My son thinks I’m imbilically attached to my computer. My digital Nikon is always by my side. When my cell phone dies, a little piece of me goes with it. An uncharged Ipod?? Unthinkable!
10. I’m so grateful for the friends I’ve met on this incredible journey. I wouldn’t trade 20 years for any of you! I love you all!
Now off to get an iphone to celebrate the next decade!
If you’re celebrating your 60th birthday, please feel free to add your happy thoughts to the list!

Where Zat Answer
Yep, it’s that little “gingerbread house” (according to Grandkid #4). I like Frank‘s guess! “I know exactly where that is…… I just can’t remember”! But Nate got it first,”That’s Athena’s house, off Washington Street just up from Plum Cove beach in Lanesville”, followed by Damon,“It is in fact right down the street from me
” Thanks for playing, everybody!
PHISH @ Phenway!
I’m not sure which was more exciting – seeing Phish for the frist time or being in right field at Fenway. I think everyone there felt the awe of standing where our beloved Red Sox players are each game.As we were picking up the tickets (thank you s000 much, Skip!), it started to rain, but as often happens, the thunderstorm quickly passed and the concert went on on time!
Where Zat? #25
This building is on the main drag…a little out of the city, but still on this side of the bridge. Damon will get this one. Paul, too! Good luck and thanks for playing!

Sharon’s BP Update
So I went off my third blood pressure med last Friday determined to stay off. I made the commitment to myself to exercise regularly (and I added Omega 3-6-9 capsules from Common Crow). I rode 12 slow miles on Monday, walked on Tuesday, Weds and Thurs I goofed off, Fri rode on the bike on the indoor trainer. Yesterday afternoon I had my BP checked and it was 20 points lower than a week ago on the medicine!
So we’ll see how this all works out. I rode 11 hard miles (hills) today into Rockport. It feels great though! I’ll keep you posted! —Sharon

THURSDAY MAY 28th
From Dave Sag on the Rhumb Line’s Thursday Night Blues Party–
This Thursday sees the triumphant return of two musical monsters: Keyboard millipede and vogalist xtremondo Mr. Joe Bargar and three-fisted drummber Mr. Joey Scrima. We have’nt seen Joey in awhile, due to a horrible inkjet printer accident and we’re happy to have a copy of him to flail the nite away. Joe, of course has been here more recently. He’s a busy guy and I’m glad to have him back once again. Look out for his gut-wrenching version of the classic “Drown in my own tears” : I’m bringin’ my hanky, and an EMT will be on call for those of you with heart problems. As for the rest of us, Greg T. and I will be on duty, just tryin’ to keep up.
See you there!

Where Zat? #25
Today’s Where’s Zat? is off the beaten path, but almost everyone has seen it. This might be an easy one. Jay?
Good luck and thanks for playing!

Bob Grover’s ’38 Roadster

My brother-in-law Bob Grover and my sister Pat just picked up our mother in Bob’s ’38 Ford Roadster. My mother, who turned 80 in March, thought it was great! The car was used in a advertisement photo shoot last week. Very cool!
Off for a ride…Determination
So last week I had to get off my 3rd blood pressure medication. It’s baffling the doctors because I have undeniable side effects. At a party yesterday I was talking to Dave and Chris Curley who are training to do the 175 mile MS ride in the near future. We got talking about cycling which I used to do a lot. This morning I start a mission to lower my blood pressure by getting out there and riding around our beautiful city. I’ll start off slowly and work up to a Newburyport ride by summer’s end and hopefully it will give me all the benefits of regular exercise.
Now that I’ve posted it here, it makes my commitment official. Wish me luck!

My Wall St. Rock Garden
I’ve always wanted to do a rock garden. I must have gotten it from my Nana Lowe. There are little dirt pockets up the rock wall and I could picture what I wanted . So after doing some research online, I went over to Marshall’s on Concord St. and bought a bunch of perennials. This is a huge commitment, but I think the end result will be worth it. Tomorrow we do the vegetables. Now I just have to figure out what’s eating the basil…
Gloucester legends: Willie Alexander’s latest CD focuses on poetry and life of Vincent Ferrini
By William Routhier/Beacon Correspondent
Gloucester – First thought, best thought, always. Write free-flowing, spontaneous prose. Give birth to artistic creation in the heartbeat of the moment, the now, the ever-present now.![DSC_3645 [640x480] Sharon Lowe photo](https://goodmorninggloucester.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/dsc_3645-640x480.jpg?w=192&h=290)
These were credos of Beat writers Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, and that spirit of unbridled creativity is alive and well in Gloucester musician Willie Alexander.
Alexander, who played with The Lost, the last version of the Velvet Underground, his own Boom Boom Band and The Persistence of Memory Orchestra, is a Boston music legend. Stephen King put Alexander’s song “Mass Ave.” at number 13 on his list of top 25 best rock songs of all time.
Thin and fit at 66, Alexander displays the buoyant energy of an edgy young rocker, but also carries with him the calm wisdom of a man who’s learned what is valuable and lasting. For Alexander, a major part of what is valuable and lasting is the city where he was born and now lives, Gloucester.
Alexander spent the first five years of his life in Gloucester, where his father was the minister of the Baptist Church, then moved to East Providence, R.I., and later to Newtonville, Mass. Just a subway ride away from Boston and Cambridge, Alexander would travel in to hear music at various music joints, like Club 47, which later became the famous Club Passim. It was just before the folk music boom, and Club 47 was a jazz club, home to hipsters and beatniks. To read more, click here…
