Lisa Smith, Cape Ann TV producer writes, “I have a video for you to post on GMG: “The Crazy Hat Ladies Party.” Sister’s Robyn & Amy have been having a party on Saturday afternoons for 20 years and making crazy hats for 12 years. The hats are incredible! And they are so much fun.” Thanks Lisa for sharing!

Happy Fourth of July Gloucester!
Shout Out to Chief Campanello and the Gloucester Police Department!
I discussed writing this post with my husband on Sunday, just to let people know how professional I thought was the police presence at Fiesta, when the department’s own release was published yesterday (posted here). Nevertheless, I wanted to share my observations regarding the department during the Fiesta.
For the past week I have been filming throughout the square, and in the thick of Pavilion Beach for all three days of the Greasy Pole and seine boat races, amidst the throngs of thousands and thousands. I just have to say that despite all the rambunctious craziness, the officers were without fail courteous, cool, calm, and collected. I am sure their patience was tried often enough, but whether directing traffic, giving directions, riding their horses throughout the city, or when simply standing at the sidelines, they were friendly and composed. Thanks to Mayor Kirk, Chief Campanello, and all the officers on duty for helping to make this years’ Saint Peter’s Fiesta one of the best ever!

2014 Fiesta Sunday Midnight Closing Ceremonial Procession Around Fort Square
Leaving the altar for the procession around Fort Square
Each year hundreds gather at the altar around 11:30 pm Fiesta Sunday evening, to line up for the ceremonial procession of parading St. Peter around Fort Square before returning him to the St. Peter’s Club window. This procession around Fort Square marks the official end of The Feast Of St. Peter.

Saint Peter’s Fiesta Friday Opening Ceremony
Friday’s picture perfect summer skies made for an especially festive and at times poignant Saint Peter’s Fiesta grand opening ceremony. Festival-goers gathered at the Saint Peter’s Club and, after everyone who had participated in the day’s earlier sporting events had raced home to change, the procession carrying Saint Peter through the square and around the old city hall (American Legion building) began. Eight fishermen are given the honor of transporting Saint Peter on a specially crafted cart.
The Wagner and Sleepy Pallazola Families were given special commendations by the Fiesta committee
Rev. James M. Achadinha, the new pastor for Our Lady of Good Voyage and Holy Family, was introduced to the crowd.
Dominic Nicastro hands the care of Saint Peter to Joe Orlando
State Representative Ann Margaret Ferrante and Senator Bruce Tarr gave moving speeches and rallying cries for the fishing industry.
