I’m very pleased to inform you that jazz saxophonist Grace Kelly, a rising star on the international jazz scene, has just asked The Polygroove Orchestra, made up of five Rockport High School students, to perform as the opening act for her concert at the Shalin Liu Performance Center on Friday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m. Rockport Music is thrilled to present its hometown band of young musicians, continuing its commitment to supporting youth in the Rockport and Gloucester Public Schools and in communities throughout the North Shore.

Grace Kelly is 18 years old and is considered of the greatest jazz saxophonists in the country.

She is also a singer, songwriter and arranger.

She is from Brookline, Massachusetts.

Grace performs in jazz clubs all over the United States and in Europe.

She’s performed at the top jazz festivals in the United States.
Harry Conick Jr, Wynton Marsalis are supporters of Grace.

The Boston Phoenix reader poll named her the “Best Boston Act” for jazz, three years in a row.

For such a young performer she has produced 5 CD’s.
The Polygroove Orchestra, made up of five Rockport High School students, will be the opening act.

The Polygroove Orchestra
The Polygroove Orchestra consists of five Rockport high school students, who, as part of the school’s music program, joined together to form a jazz combo in 2009. After working together for school performances, the group began to perform publicly  and became known as the Polygroove Orchestra. They have played at a number of events and venues, including the Rockport HarvestFest, the reception to welcome the new Rockport Town Administrator,  the Sandy Bay Yacht Club Lecture Series,  Gloucester’s Battle of the Bands Fundraiser, the Rockport Rotary Club’s Tree-Lighting Dinner, Rockport PTO fundraisers, and a student-organized rally to support the recent town override. Their repertoire is an eclectic mix of jazz, blues, standards, and rock, and they bring a fresh perspective and youthful energy to each performance.

Rockport Music offers wine aficionados the opportunity to sample nine of the best French, German, and Californian wines from some of the world’s finest producers. Legendary jazz pianist Dave Brubeck
is the featured performer at Jazz on the Rocks. Event features a pre-concert wine and hors d’oeuvres soiree in the third- floor Reception Hall and a mini live auction of exclusive items, including jazz weekends in Boston and Newport (RI), a sculpture by Chris Williams, a wine dinner at My Place By The Sea (Rockport, MA), a weekend in Ogunquit, Maine, and arts and culinary experiences.
Guests and members of the public who cannot attend may participate by purchasing raffle tickets to win “Trane,” a sculpture by internationally acclaimed sculptor and Rockport resident John Raimondi. Part of Raimondi’s Jazz Series, this 40” bronze sculpture is a tribute to renowned sax player John Coltrane, a romantic abstraction and evocation of the artist’s essence.

Dave Brubeck, honored by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2009 for his incredible talents and lifelong accomplishments and contributions to the field, is recognized for helping to ease jazz into the mainstream, marrying spontaneity with classical rigor, making unlikely time signatures irresistible, and adding swing to serious music. From the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s worldwide success in the 1950s and ‘60s, through the jazz opera Cannery Row Suite he created with his wife Iola Brubeck at the 2006 Monterey Jazz Festival, Brubeck continues to surprise.
John Raimondi’s work is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC; and the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, Maine, among many others. To date, Mr. Raimondi has completed more than 100 monumental sculptures for public, corporate and private collections worldwide, such as Stockley Park, Heathrow Airport, London; Omaha International Airport, Nebraska; and the Sculpture Garden in Vienna, where his work represents the United States.
Founded in 1981, Rockport Music presents exceptional concerts and cultural events in its acclaimed new home, the Shalin Liu Performance Center. Located 45 minutes north of Boston in the historic, seaside village of Rockport, Massachusetts, Rockport Music is best known for its summer chamber music festival which features the world’s finest ensembles and soloists. News From Rockport Music! Second Paula Cole Concert Added

Thank you for mentioning that single tickets were going on sale for Rockport Music’s season.  Our offices was flooded with requests to purchase tickets!

Here’s some information that I’d like to share with you….

Rockport Music, presenter of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, is experiencing unprecedented demand for tickets to its inaugural season in the Shalin Liu Performance Center, which opens on June 10, 2010. Since tickets went on sale on March 15, nine of twenty-four concerts have sold out.

Rockport Music is pleased to announce that it has added a second performance for the Rockport appearances of Grammy Award-winning singer Paula Cole. The new date is Friday, August 6, at 8 p.m. at the Shalin Liu Performance Center, located at 37 Main Street in downtown Rockport, Massachusetts. The first performance, Saturday, August 7 at 8 p.m. sold out two weeks ago. In the intervening days, Rockport Music received many phone calls from local residents and fans of Paula Cole, who were very disappointed to discover that the concert was sold out. States Rockport Music Director of Marketing Gregg Sorensen, “Paula Cole is a real treasure, not only for local residents, but for countless fans around the globe. Rockport Music is grateful to Ms. Cole for finding time in her very busy schedule to add an additional concert during the inaugural season of our new home, the Shalin Liu Performance Center. It’s with great anticipation that we await her performances in August.”

Rockport Music’s first season in the Shalin Liu Performance Center begins on June 10. The organization’s signature series, the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, includes 20 classical chamber music concerts from June 10-July 18. The newest series, Rockport Music Presents, features five jazz, world-music, and pop concerts from July 24 – August 8. During the summer, Rockport Music also offers a number of special events to enhance the audience’s concert experience. Those include prelude suppers, lectures, master classes, a DVD/lecture, and two free Family Concerts.

Rockport Music single tickets go on sale April 5

Rockport Music announces that single tickets for performances of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival (June 10 – July 18) and Rockport Music Presents (July 24 – August 8) go on sale Monday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. This will be the organization’s inaugural season in the Shalin Liu Performance Center, which opens on June 10. Subscriptions, series tickets that include four or more concerts, went on sale March 15. Thus far, Rockport Music has experienced an unprecedented demand for tickets, far out-pacing all previous seasons.  Out of a total of 24 concerts, a few are almost sold out, including pianist Garrick Ohlsson (June 10), violinist Midori (July 18), and Rockport native Paul Cole (August 7).  Good seats are still available for many concerts, but it’s recommended that patrons reserve their ticket soon.

 The 2010 Rockport Chamber Music Festival will feature many of today’s foremost soloists and ensembles. Programs includes pianists Giles Vonsattel, Marc-André Hamelin, and Rockport Music’s Artistic Director David Deveau; the Borromeo, Jupiter, Biava and Brentano String Quartets; the Boston Trio; Boston Brass; the early music ensemble Parthenia (consort of viols); and the all-male vocal ensemble Cantus. A new series, Rockport Music Presents, offers leading jazz, world music, and pop artists, including Paul Cole, clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera, jazz pianist Bill Charlap, and violinist Regina Carter.

 Starting April 5, single tickets may be purchased by visiting www.rockportmusic.org, calling 978-546-7391 (M-F, 10-4), or dropping by the Rockport Music Box Office at 21 Broadway in Rockport, Massachusetts (M-F, 10-4). Senior discounts are available. To make Rockport Music’s concerts more accessible to young people, $12 tickets will be available for students age 19-25 and free-of-charge for youth age 18 and younger (limited capacity).
