Pete Mondello, a lobsterman and a smoker for over forty years is mad as a hornet and he’s gonna do something about it.
The latest round of tax increases on cigarettes has him pissed off enough to quit he says. His rationale for quitting isn’t for health reasons, it isn’t because cigarettes stink or any of the other myriad of reasons smoking is a terrible decision.
He’s outraged that the government will give money to bail out Fortune 500 companies who are doling out million dollar bonuses while upping the taxes on his guilty pleasure (cigarettes). He doesn’t want a single dollar of his money to go to the greedy bastards, he’s hopping mad and it’s enough to get him to stop smoking.
Hey I’m not quite sure if the logic is all that perfect but if it gets any other smokers out there to quit I’m all for it.
Here’s Pete Mondello with some repaired buoys. The thing about the Mondello boys is that they never ever stop. They always are doing something weather it be tinkering on the boat or repairing traps or buoys. They never stop. Talk about energy. It’s just go-go-go.

Here’s Pete Mondello and Billy working on a new setting table for the Allison Carol.
When Pete hauls his ten pot trawls he will stack the pots along that setting table after they have been re-baited and then he will set the traps off the back of this “setting table”

Here Pete coils rope which has been set for a long time. The reason he is taking it off the boat is to take out the knots in the rope that make it more difficult to run the rope through the hauler.

It was just as good as the first time, and ridiculously cheap.
We’ll be back.

Captain Peter Mondello of the F/V Allison Carol told me this morning that he will now be doing fishing charters.
I don’t know what he will be charging, have nothing to gain financially if you book a charter through him.
What I do know however is that you won’t find a more relaxed, knowledgeable, fun loving skipper to put you on fish. If you want a hoity toity white glove fishing experience this probably isn’t the charter for you. But if you want to catch fish and plenty of them while having a great time with a really funny skipper that has been commercial fishing longer than I have been alive, then do yourself a favor and contact Pete.
