Preservation architect Frederic Detwiller of New England Landmarks will give a talk with a slideshow on the history of the Pearce-Haskell-Calef “Moose Lodge” house, 26 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, at the Sawyer Free Library on Thursday, May 10, at 7:00 pm.
The presentation will discus the design and construction of this exceptional 18th century federal-style, timber-frame house, most probably by master housewright Jacob Smith, for the City’s wealthiest merchant, David Pearce and the buildings subsequent evolution.
The talk will highlight the lives of the house’s residents, including China Trade Captain John Haskell, and their importance in Gloucester’s history.
