GHS DECA Class Sends 13 To Mass State DECA Competition

Marlee Melvin reports-

This years DECA class was awarded with thirteen Gloucester High School students to attend the Massachusetts State DECA competition in Boston. All students did a great job representing the high school! One lucky student, Ariana Puopolo placed 3rd in her category of professional selling. Her coming in 3rd place out of 12 teams sends her to Anaheim California for the national DECA competition! Along with Ariana, DECA adviser and teacher Ann Grassetti will be selecting Joshua Lane to attend Anaheim with them because of Gloucester earning one slot for the Leadership Academy.  Josh Lane is a strong student who has been working in the business department at the school for the past three years. Congrats guys and good luck in California!!

Gloucester High School Varsity Cheerleaders

Marlee Melvin Submits-

The Gloucester High School Varsity Cheerleaders received a lot of success over this past winter season. The 16 member team has worked tirelessly during the school year to perfect their routines. They’ve won the following titles as a result of their dedication and tremendous efforts: Northeast Conference Champions 2012-2013, Regional Champions 2013, Regional Grand Champions 2013, and 2nd place winner in the State Finals. They also earned a bid to Nationals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on April 25th. In order to attend, the team must raise $12,000 to cover the cost of air fare and lodging during the 5 day competition. They truly need the support of their community to assist them with reaching their goal. Your donation would be highly appreciated and we thank you for your consideration and anticipated support.

Ecology Class Collects Trash Around Shore!

GMG GHS correspondent Marlee Melvin reports-

GHS CLEANING UP!

A laboratory exercise in the high schools ecology class measures and collects trash around the shoreline behind the school. The students picked up two full trash barrels, about 36 pounds, along 750 feet of shoreline, and using this as an overall average were able to calculate that there is probably around 390,000 pounds of plastic trash on the combined shorelines of Massachusetts! They were able to do this by utilizing the equipment and facility that were donated to GHS by Salem State (the β€œLab”). The class is learning about plastics in the environment and their impact on the marine ecosystems!

GHS vs Rockport Hockey Photos From Marlee Melvin

I just put in five hockey photos from the fan section tonight  at the rockport vs. Gloucester game. Gloucester won 7-3 and those pictures at the end are the tunnel fans made that went from the ice all the way to the locker room for the boys, celebrating the victory. Great game for GHS!

Pictures With Santa! At Gloucester High School Photos From Marlee Melvin

Senior students are raising money by being able to take pictures with Santa at lunch yesterday and today. Taking a picture with Santa is a great way for the high school to get into Christmas spirit and to raise money for the senior class!
