The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation is proud to present the original silent movie ‘Peter Pan,’ a 1925 American fantasy-adventure film as part of its Tenth Anniversary Series. It will be narrated by acclaimed actress Lindsay Crouse and accompanied on the pipe organ by maestro Peter Krasinski. This is great entertainment for the whole family during the holidays!
Tickets are available at the door and online (strongly recommended) with more information at: http://www.gloucestermeetinghouse.org. General admission is $30, students $10, under age 12 free.

For decades the silent movie ‘Peter Pan’ was thought to be lost but in the 1950’s a well preserved copy was discovered in a vault in Rochester, New York. The film is based on a play written by Sir James Barrie and was directed by Herbert Brenon in 1924 and was filmed on Santa Cruz island. The plot explores fantasy, adventure and is a playful film armed with technical ingenuity and classic source material.

The presentation will be narrated by Lindsay Crouse, American actress who made her debut in the 1972 revival of Much Ado About Nothing. She has played many roles in numerous films and received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination. Lindsay is a resident of Annisquam and a well-known celebrity on Cape Ann.

The film will also be accompanied by Peter Krasinski, a master of improvised silent movie accompaniment, whose exciting performances delight kids and adults alike. Krasinski will display the diverse power of the 1893 Hutchings/Fisk organ, creating music that adds mystery, intrigue and excitement to this memorable and nostalgic film.

‘Peter Pan’ is presented in collaboration with the Cape Ann Community Cinema.

Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush with Peter Krasinski

Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, 3:30pm

A century ago, the name Chaplin was as famous as that of Spielberg, Redford, or Streep. In Hollywood’s early days, he was a comedian, producer, writer, director and composer widely regarded as the greatest comic artist of films—and, according to Encyclopedia Britannica, one of the most important figures ever in motion picture history.

On Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2, at 3:30pm a Charlie Chaplin masterpiece, The Gold Rushwill be featured marking the 100th anniversary of this silent-film classic, with live organ accompaniment by maestro Peter Krasinski in the historic 1806 Meetinghouse, home of the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church.

The Gold Rush is a 1925 American silent film comedy written, produced and directed by Chaplin. It received an Academy Award nomination, and it has since been added to the National Film registry by the Library of Congress for its cultural, historic and aesthetic significance.

Silent films aren’t silent at all. Before ‘talkies’ came along the action was augmented by vigorous pianists or skilled organists whose music swelled or swooned to match the action. The Gold Rush will be accompanied by Peter Krasinski, a master of improvised silent movie accompaniment, whose exciting performances delight kids and adults alike. Krasinski will exploit all the tone colors and power of the 1893 Hutchings/Fisk organ, creating music that adds mystery, intrigue and excitement to this notable film.

The Gloucester Meetinghouse

A CELEBRATION OF GLOUCESTER’S 400TH ANNIVERSARY, NOVEMBER 18TH AT 2:00PM IN THE HISTORIC
MEETINGHOUSE, CORNER OF MIDDLE AND CHURCH STREETS (GPS, #50 MIDDLE ST.)
‘REFUSING TO PAY,’ GLOUCESTER’S ROLE BUILDING RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IN AMERICA
This three-part program was created for Gloucester’s 400ᵗʰ Anniversary Celebration to share the story of
how Rev. John Murray and his Gloucester followers influenced the separation of church and state, the
promise of religious liberty in the First Amendment.
The first segment is a video that tells the story about how in 1782 Murray’s followers refused to pay
Gloucester taxes to support the town church system. Their possessions were seized and they sued to get
them back. It took three years, but they eventually won, setting a key precedent. The Massachusetts
Supreme Judicial Court ruled that “a free populace cannot be taxed to support a state church.”
In the second segment Rev. Murray magically returns to share what happened in Gloucester, details
about the famous court case, and a second court case that led to Massachusetts legally recognizing the
independence of diverse churches and synagogues.
The third segment features a panel discussion including Q&A with the audience about why this story
matters so much in present-day America with often caustic civic discourse and religion in the center of
political culture wars.
A reception with light refreshments will follow at the Sargent House Museum, a short walk down Middle
Street (#49.)
This event is free and open to the public. It will also be live-streamed by Studio 1623 on the local
channel 6 and will be available later on YouTube.
It was jointly produced by the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation, the Gloucester Unitarian
Universalist Church and the Sargent House Museum. For more information please visit:

Events at the Gloucester Meetinghouse and a thank you for Charles

Hi Donna and Joey,

Thanks for posting the events at the Gloucester Meetinghouse (Unitarian Universalist Church) on Good Morning Gloucester.  Your help with getting the word out is always greatly appreciated!

Next weekend we have back to back concerts, a rare occurrence.  Posters for both are attached but I just placed both events on the blog.

On Saturday evening, December 17, the Musicians of the Old Post Road perform their annual chamber music concert of the holiday season.  They are one of the best early music ensembles in the country and play on period instruments, offering a gorgeous musical experience in the candlelit warmth of the Meetinghouse.  Here is the  Cape Ann Community Blog post:  https://capeanncommunity.com/2022/12/08/american-originals-a-moravian-christmas/

On Sunday evening, December 18, the Cape Ann Big Band is performing their Holiday Concert.  Both shows in Rockport at the Shalin Liu the day before are already sold out!  This is a great chance for local residents to enjoy their signature big sound in a much larger space and for less money per ticket!!!  Here is the Cape Ann Community Blog post: https://capeanncommunity.com/2022/12/08/newsflash-extra-cape-ann-big-band-holiday-concert-sunday-december-18th/

Question:  when I am adding an event at WordPress there is a list of Categories on the right hand margin (e.g. Maritime Gloucester) to choose as a venue or organization, but the Gloucester Meetinghouse does not appear.  I have tried to enter our name in the open slot but it won’t let me.  How do we get the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation listed with the other organizations?  Can one of you do this for us?

A Big Band Holiday
