My sister “Painter Barb” left for NYC after her Christmas Day visit with me. I see she arrived safely. Her photo is of her and my father’s cousin Vesla, on the left. Vesla is the Norwegian nickname for “little one.” She is the youngest from that generation of my family, which has its roots on the island of Tonsberg, off the southern coast of Norway. In the background is the Manhattan Apple store, whose products are used by my sis and myself. God bless them both.

Brothers in Cancer, Brothers Forever
This past Sunday, my friend and brother-in-law, Robert Lee Doss (L), died after a courageous battle with cancer. He was diagnosed last February, two weeks after my own cancer diagnosis. Robert and my sister, “Painter Barb,” lived on Martha’s Vineyard, and were frequent guests at GMG and my own events at the gallery.
Robert was a CPA, attorney, and Chief Revenue Officer for the State of Alaska. This photo was taken by sista’ Barb during our last visit together, which was a delightful luncheon at the Emerson Inn. Rest in peace Robert, you were a true friend and the best oyster shucker and grill master I ever knew.

Barbara Bodin, Fred Bodin’s sister, paints outside his galley in the West End during the Block Party. Barb is visiting from Martha’s Vinyard to take painting workshops at the North Shore Arts Association. And, of course, spend some quality time with her brother.
