I was brought up to think numbers. Dad got US News and World Report and I couldn’t get enough of charts and graphs and later would go on to major in economics at a business school. It hasn’t been til the later part in my life that I have come to understand just how important Art and the process of creating is to one’s being. Once you start to create, you have a hunger to continue to create and expand upon your medium. It may be hard to explain correctly but once you get that feeling, that desire, it’s not hard at all to understand that hunger and how miserable you can feel if you don’t feed it.

There are creative minds. There are talented hands. You put them together and you get Bob Viau. Bob created this incredible sign for David Harrison dentistry. The picture doesn’t do it justice. In person the oyster shell and tooth are three dimensional and litterally pop off the sign board. It’s amazing some of the stuff Bob has created at Studio VO on East Main St. To see more of Bob’s work and videos click this text.

Happy Day!- That’s the standard Brenda Malloy greeting.
I took these two carved wooden stripers home from the Menage Gallery to see if they would work in the house. The Mrs loves them and actually found about 4 or five different spots that she wanted to place them. I say that’s a little overkill so we may settle on just getting two. One for the kitchen and one for the deck. Pictured is “Goody” who was working yesterday when I picked these two up. Video at 2PM

There are many copper fish for sale at the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center.
Readers from the past may remember my feelings about the fish that people buy to display in their local home.
If you have an attachment to tropical fish or have sentimental feelings about a place you visited far away with exotic or tropical fish then that would be a reason to buy and display one. But if you are buying fish art for your Northeast home, thinking that any fish is local , please do just a tiny bit of research and discover what fish are caught around these waters- like cod, haddock, tuna, stripers and such.
I find it funny when folks put up a huge mahi mahi on their wall thinking they are decorating with a North East theme.
The fish in the picture is tagged as a haddock but from the spots on it I’d say it looks more like a codfish.
It is the work of Dana and Jeremy Hatch from Cape Ann Copper Works. Their workshop is just around the corner at 34 Mt Pleasant Ave in East Gloucester.
