Happy Holiday Season!

Dec. 1, 2022 All day!
The wreaths are up on Main Street, the Lobster Trap Tree is beckoning and charming in its Before state, the shops and restaurants adorned and merry, and today’s weather is clear and crisp for Gloucester’s 49th annual “Ladies Night”! What are the store specials and holiday treats that will tempt us tonight?

photos: Sunrise – Main Street, Gloucester, Mass. ready for Ladies Night
For years my mother and I met up at Halibut Point Restaurant on the East End for a festive toast before strolling and shopping Main Street. I think I had my first buttered rum there. We had so many favorite stops. What Ladies Night traditions do you recall fondly?
**Which means: the 50th Ladies Night will land in Gloucester’s 400th+ Anniversary year!**

GMG Jim was out of town for Thanksgiving this year and flew back into Logan the Sunday after the holiday. We knew travel that day is typically a nightmare and it proved so once again so we were both glad when he did arrive back in Gloucester Sunday evening. We decided to go down the road to the 525 on Lexington Ave in Magnolia for dinner. It was a perfect choice for a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. It’s looking very festive in there. Stella was our server and there was also music: Ye Olde Mitchells. People were greeting friends with hugs all around. It just felt right.
I thought a Mistletoe Margarita might work (and it did). Jim had meatloaf and I had chicken piccata. We each cleaned our plates while enjoying the music and the surroundings. A great neighborhood spot for food and good company.

We are excited to share this year that we are hosting the first annual Grand Banks Holiday Market! Weโre so excited to open our showroom up on December 8th to local artists, makers and businesses for a festive holiday event! Thinkโฆ amazing local & unique gifts, food trucks, delicious treats, lots of twinkle lights, and plenty of holiday music to get you in the spirit! And in the interest of good cheer, weโll also be raising funds for a cause close to our hearts โ the Wellspring Cape Ann Kids Holiday Fund! We hope to see you there for this magical event! ๐โจ๐

Kate and I are going to feature one or two local places to buy holiday gifts each day highlighting the fact that thereโs no need to buy your presents online or trudge up to the mall.
Thereโs excellent places to shop right here in Gloucester.

THE GLOUCESTER MEETINGHOUSE FOUNDATION PRESENTS A HOLIDAY CONCERT SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17
โAMERICAN ORIGINALS: A MORAVIAN CHRISTMASโ
The Musicians of the Old Post Road perform chamber music from the Moravian community
played on period instruments.
The Musicians of the Old Post Road return for the sixth consecutive year in a candlelight evening of chamber music
for the holiday season. The December 17 concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Gloucester Meetinghouse at the
corner of Middle and Church Streets in Gloucester.
The Musicians of the Old Post Road perform on period instruments and will be joined by soprano Jessica Petrus
and mezzo-soprano Hilary Ann Walker.
Musical selections are drawn from Moravian composers including several modern-day premieres of works penned
by Americaโs Moravian immigrants along with selections by Johann Joachim Quantz, Carl Heinrich Graun, and
Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach, the fifth son of J.S. Bach.
Early music expert, Martin Pearlman, describes the Moravian communityโs contribution to composition and performance:
โIf a traveler to America in the 18th or early 19th century wanted to find the best music performed and written in the
European traditionโ it would be found โin the churches and settlements of the Moravians.
Tickets are available online at www.gloucestermeetinghouse.org or at the door. Preferred seating is $45 and general
seating $30; students with ID $10; children under 12 free.

Preservation Act and a $2,000 grant from the Essex Heritage Partnership Grant Program towards a total project goal of $340,000.
Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2023.

GLOUCESTER ไธ Chief Edward Conley is pleased to report that the Gloucester Police Kops N Kids program will host a visit with Santa Claus at the Gloucester Police Community Impact Unit’s offices on Middle Street on Saturday.
Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Gloucester Police Department Community Impact Unit, 67 Middle St., Gloucester, MA
Santa Claus will visit the Gloucester Police Community Impact Unit to visit with community children and to sit for photographs. The event and photos are free, and there will be festive treats available for kids and guardians alike.
Members of the Community Impact Unit will decorate their conference room with a Christmas tree and festive backdrop for family photos with Santa. To view a video preview of the decorations, click here.
During the event, the Gloucester High School hockey team will be collecting new toys in their original packaging as part of a toy drive, so guests are encouraged to bring gifts if they are able.
Children are also asked to bring letters to Santa, along with a return address in case Santa has time to write back.
Kops N Kids launched in 2016, under the guidance of Lt. Jeremiah Nicastro, as a way for officers to engage with children in our community. Oftentimes when children first engage with a police officer it is during a traumatic event. Kops n Kids changes that by making a positive connection at a young age.
Community Impact Unit Officer Joe Parady, and School Resource Officers Mike Scola and Pete Sutera have grown the Kops n Kids program to include Ace, a Community Resource Dog, SRO_Gaming an interactive online gaming platform, the Youth Anglers Program, and after school programs. |
