Who:  525, a new restaurant anchoring the revitalization of Magnolia’s Lexington Avenue. 525 is a neighborhood restaurant that serves creative comfort food and locally inspired cocktails. The space’s chic ambiance makes guests feel at home, with an oversized bar ideal for connecting with friends old and new. 525 also boasts outdoor seating, making it the perfect après beach destination this summer.

What:  A neighborhood party! 525 will celebrate its birthday every year on 5/25, and this Sunday’s event marks the first annual bash to commemorate the occasion. The restaurant has “taken over” its neighboring sidewalk to set the stage for the party.

There will be live music from the area’s own John Rockwell, face painting and activities for the kids, as well as samples from the restaurant’s new menu.

We’re baaaaaaack!!!!!
Tomorrow night, 5/23/14, is the kick off for Friday nights at the Castle Manor Inn, 7:00 to 10:00PM.
I will be there with the incredible….Thad Bernard and my dear friend Deby Wantman! As beautiful as the Castle may be, make no mistake, this is a very casual and comfortable atmosphere with the friendliest staff and a view that is beautiful!
On another note, last night I had gone out to see the best of the best of local talent, there we’re some tourists
in the audience asking questions about our little city of music and they were in such awe of the support and
the connection we all have, I was so proud to be part of this, again I say, I take none of this for granted!

One Day In Boston From Rick Macomber

On April 26, 2014 a collaboration of Boston filmmakers set out to film an event in the city for “One Day in Boston,” part of the documentary film “One Day on Earth.” Shot throughout the entire day during intermittent rain with a Canon C300, a Freefly MoVI, aerial shots and timelapse photography from different locations, our film documented Boston based community organizers Isabel Torres and Kevin Thomas from PROJECT Right in Grove Hall. Because of recent left rotator cuff surgery due to camera work, instead of shooting this story I produced and directed it.

Note the clam shacks on the left, and Clam Alley, where 'Clam Tucker sold his steamers. I'm in the woods about what High Roads refers to. It may be Washington Street, because it runs along the ridge "high" above the Mill River.

Nick Taormina and I set 6 turtle traps today in some vernal pool habitat near where Blanding’s Turtles have been known to exist. In Gloucester on Essex County Greenbelt property. With permission from ECGB and MA Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. The idea is to see if we can find any Blanding’s. They are a Species of Special Concern in Massachusetts, and their presence could determine a Rare Specis Habitat.

WE NEED LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS FOR THE YARD SALE
As of now, we are going ahead with the sale this Saturday. By Friday evening we will make a decision. Yes or no. Rain date is the following Saturday.

Great weather means you have to plan ahead a little

Every once in a while, we make a point of alerting you when upcoming concerts are about to sell out or when seats are released.  We realize Gloucester is a last-minute-town and, during the winter, you can get used to showing up on the day of a concert to buy tickets at the door.  As more people discover the thriving music scene around here, you can’t always do this — even in Winter.

Now we’re approaching the time of year where you really do have to think ahead a little — especially if you want to see a show at Shalin Liu in Rockport.  Many of their May shows sold out and if you check their website, you’ll find shows in June and July with only a very few seats left.

Luckily for you, there are still seats left to see Gary Hoey this Friday (tickets here).

Gary’s solo set dazzled the packed Larcom Theatre audience back in March when he performed with James Montgomery and the Guitar Summit.

So just accept the fact that living in the middle of one of the top music scenes in the U.S., means you’ll have to plan ahead if you want to see some of the top artists who come here.

Deb Clarke’s Cezanne Phase

It was ’98 or ’99 when Fred Kepler studied with me.  We both painted when he came for his lessons. My paintings were used as ‘training’ paintings that i used to demonstrate various techniques, color mixing, approaches to composition, etc. as the painting developed. The Cezanne phase painting above is the result of Fred’s visits to the studio over an 8 week period.

The still life above is 26×32″ .  We  set the still life up in the center of the floor under studio lights which were staggered warm/cool/warm/cool in overhead tracts.  Cezanne was the compositional reference.  I did not use Cezanne color theory in my work; I needed to learn how to use black and white gray.   That was my lesson.  Fred’s lesson was composition with warm/cool color theory and drawing thrown in.

Today Fred visits the world’s great paintings with his dear Lenore.  I have seen some terrific paintings that he has done of Lenore, or other people standing in front of the masterpieces.  He has learned to teach himself by copying the best paintings, while sharing his love of art with his wife and having a great time.  He has even come to know the joy of selling some of his work!

So glad I did not throw this painting away.  I was tempted to over the years, but some of those creases are just to awesome not to admire.  oh, the braided rug is one of the Willis family treasures.  I sure hope I didn’t get too much paint on that beauty.

Pet of the Week-Pandora

Oh my goodness, I am in Good Morning Gloucester! Now everyone will get to know me better.  My name is Pandora and I am a four-month-old Retriever and Great Dane.

My siblings and I are here at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located at Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, Four Paws Lane in Gloucester.  We will be medium to large when we are fully grown.   If you have the time for an active pup and want to put some excitement in your life, consider adopting me or one of my siblings, we are all sweet dogs and we love to snuggle!

Have you visited the shelter yet?  If you haven’t you should come for a visit – it is incredible!  Great outside trails, wonderful staff and volunteers and I love all the other animals here.   If you visit, we would love to have some gently used towels, and of course, it is ok to bring toys for shelter cats and dogs.    If you see you at the door, I will be sure to greet you!
