Oh Teddy, my Teddy BEar
Over half of us still have our teddy bears. My sister (painter Barb) and I were given our teddy bears in the early 1950’s, when we were toddlers. From left to right: “Brownie,” Barb’s bear, my “Get Well” bear, who speaks, my childhood bear “Whitey,” and Janet’s “Get Well Bear.” The new bears speak when you press a button on their stomachs, saying in a lithe girl or boy’s voice things like “Laugh, you’ll feel better.” At first I thought this was corny, but then realized how important It could be to one who is bedridden or gravely ill, like I was. Oh Teddy, my two Teddy Bears, I love you both.

Santa Gets Salty in Rockport
Even the rain couldn’t dampen the anticipation on T Wharf in Rockport yesterday afternoon as the crowd eagerly awaited the arrival of the one and only Santa!
It is truly a one-of-a-kind kind of day in a one-of-a-kind kind of town!
Please excuse my shoddy videography. As you can imagine, I was filming with one hand, taking photos with the other, and trying to make sure the boys didn’t do belly flops into Rockport Harbor. Intentionally or by accident.

Born Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Rand moved to the United States in 1926 with the intention of becoming a screenwriter. After two unsuccessful novels and a largely unnoticed play, she wrote The Fountainhead, published in 1943, which established her fame as a writer and was later made into a popular movie. Her magnum opus, Atlas Shrugged, published in 1957, expanded on her rationalist, anti-romantic themes, which she labeled Objectivism. This book essentially ended her career as a novelist, as she became more and more influential in Republican and conservative political circles for her libertarian philosophies, which rejected altruism and promoted laissez-faire capitalism. She continued to lead the Objectivist movement until her death due to complications of heavy smoking and decades of amphetamine use.

On Monday December 8th, 2014 Santa himself will be visiting Cape Ann TV for an early appearance and to take gift requests and this will be recorded & aired on Channel 12 at Christmas!
To see Santa be here at Cape Ann TV (38 Blackburn Center, Gloucester) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on December 8th, 2014!
New this year: We will also take a professional photo of your child and email it to you.

We are also a Project Uplift gift donation site, if you would like to bring in a new unwrapped present.

Monday, December 8th – 4pm to Close at Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant on Main Street: Docksiders Fundraiser Night at Jalapenos. A portion of all restaurant sales will go towards the Docksiders’ fundraising efforts. There will be a 50/50 raffle that night, and we will also be selling tickets for our lottery ticket drawing.

Cape Ann Shakespeare Troupe is casting for the Valentine’s show, Shakespeare on Love, and we still need a few roles filled. The show will run February 13th-15th at the Community House in Rockport. At this time, we are looking to cast:
a Lady Ann, to perform a scene from Richard III (Duke of Gloucester). Richard is already cast, but if you’re interested in reading for Lady Ann, please contact Susan at salconsult@verizon.net

A lovesick young man to play Romeo
a girl-Friday type lady to play Benvolio

Santa Detected on Radar Heading Towards Rockport!
Santa should arrive escorted by the Rockport Harbormaster vessel as well as Coast Guard Cutter rounding into Rockport Harbor around 3:45PM.
The rotund one then climbs aboard an ancient Rockport Fire Truck for a 100 yard ride to Dock Square where the bearded one will flip the switch on the 2014 Rockport Christmas Tree.
Hot chocolate with marshmallows, cookies, caroling, and other zany things galore in Dock Square for any child who screams, “It’s Santa!, It’s Santa!”
There may be a Good Morning Gloucester reporter onboard the Freemantle Doctor getting an exclusive interview with the actual real Santa Claus. That is unless he wimps out because of a few rain drops.

The Chef’s Table is a great way to extend our hospitality to clients or private tastings and classes. Our antique, hand-crafted table seats up to twelve people comfortably and is uniquely located inside Savour Wine and Cheese, adjacent to the beach gourmet exhibition kitchen. Guests at the table experience an exclusive private dining experience with a menu that is designed specifically to compliment the wine pairing by our wine expert, Kathleen Erickson.
These events are typically booked for private parties and are not open to the public, however we periodically open the table to reservations on a first-come, first-served basis. Sample Chef’s Table menus can be viewed on our beach gourmet web page. Do not delay in making your reservations. Open Chef’s Table events tend to sell-out very quickly.

Temple Ahavat Achim will build a menorah out of lobster traps
Lobster traps aren’t just for Christmas trees and lobsters this holiday season. Temple Ahavat Achim will build a menorah out of lobster traps at its 86 Middle Street location on Dec. 14.
The menorah will be ready for Hanukkah, the Jewish holiday that begins on the evening of Dec. 16 and runs through the evening of Dec. 23.
Phoebe Potts, director of the Sylvia Cohen Religious School at Temple Ahavat Achim, said this menorah will be the first of its kind.
“I love the idea because it highlights the uniqueness of our community, and it fits in with the local culture,” she said.
The idea came from a temple member who saw the Cape Ann Art Haven lobster trap Christmas tree on Main Street in Gloucester and said that the temple could use lobster traps for a large menorah. Potts said David Brooks of The Hive and Art Haven supports the idea.
Paul Erhard, a structural engineer and temple member, designed the structure. Forty lobster traps, piping, zip ties, and LED lights will be used in menorah’s construction.
On the first night of Hanukkah, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m., the temple will hold a community lighting and celebration that will include the participation of Hebrew school students, a brief service, singing, and delicious potato pancakes known as latkes. Marilyn Kramer, Temple Ahavat Achim president, has invited Senator Bruce Tarr, State Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante, Gloucester Mayor Carolyn Kirk, and Gloucester’s city council to the event.
Kramer said, “We will also pause to remember that this is the anniversary of the fire that destroyed our former building in 2007 and how the Gloucester community supported us as we rebuilt our new home on Middle Street.”
Temple Ahavat Achim is the only Jewish congregation on Cape Ann. Located in Gloucester, a city celebrated for its coastal beauty and its artistic and maritime heritage, temple members participate in prayer, learning, holiday celebrations, and charitable work.

The Joys of Artificial “Pre-Lit” Christmas Trees!
St. Barry checking all 900 lights to find the problem
A few years ago we had this very same problem, but only in one section of the Pre-Lit tree. After buying and using 2 different “Bulb tester” devices, that both didn’t work, after wasting several hours trying to find the “bad fuses and bulbs, we promptly return the failed “Bulb Testers and purchased a few sets of string lights, to fix the unlit section of the tree. This year St. Barry and BJ checked the fuses assembled the tree, and plugged it in to find more then half the tree lights OUT. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh….NOT AGAIN!!!!!!! and so the Pre-Lit Christmas Tree frustration set in! Out the door I went to purchase 12 boxes of lights. So much for “Pre-Lit”. Someone in town with an electrical background could make big bucks during the holidays season, making house visits trouble shooting Pre-Lit Trees, Garlands, and Holiday Decorations. We will joyfully be your first customer next year!
Last night my mother Pat, AKA “Best Mother In The World” stayed late into the evening knowing my decorating partner, daughter Amanda, wouldn’t be assisting in decking out our home this year. Decorating our family room tree is not and easy task, and usually takes 2 days to complete with help. Mom and I banged up the ornaments, flowers, crystals and sheer organza swags in a few hours. We were thrilled to be making great progress in a short amount of time, until we turned around and noticed something terrible had gone wrong with the Christmas Tree in our foyer…
My first thought was “Really St. Nick…Really?” Lets just say this moment really completed the day I was having. The wise women I’m blessed to call MOM, said “Felicia you have to laugh,” and that we did. We laughed a lot while St. Barry strung lights onto that tree. My girlfriends and I often bring humor to bad situations with this fraise…”Seriously can’t make this “stuff” (SH_T) up!”
Mom and I found an old Peace Symbol Christmas Tree Topper as we unpacked the foyer tree decorations last night. It once topped my daughter’s pink Christmas Tree she had in her room when she was a little girl. I haven’t seen or used in several years. I think St. Nicholas placed in in that box, as sign, knowing, how concerned we are for the ear problems our daughter is having. This year more then ever I pray for Peace. Peace in the world, and Peace of mind.
All I want for Christmas this year is peace of mine that my Family & Friends will be Healthy and Happy in the New Year!
