“Old Friends” and Tradition

I’m a little bit in love with the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade.  While watching it yesterday, this commercial came on.  Kind of special.

I’m a huge fan of tradition so this commercial spoke to me.  You’ve heard me say it before (or read me saying it, I guess), but when the boys were super young I decided that I wanted to create traditions that were unique to us and that we would continue year after year. Those fell into place very quickly and continue to be some of our very favorite days each year.

As I type this post it is 6:30 on Thanksgiving evening…you won’t read it until tomorrow (your today)…but now, in this moment, with very full bellies after a wonderful Thanksgiving Day, my boys are snuggled up in their sleeping bags on the living room floor eating (unbelievably) popcorn and drinking hot cocoa while watching the Polar Express. We have, every single year, ended Thanksgiving in this fashion.  Even the couple of times that we found ourselves traveling over the holiday, we still made certain to pack the essentials to continue our tradition.  One year, when spending Thanksgiving at the Steele Hill Resort in New Hampshire, we discovered that the CD case was empty and drove into town in search of a new copy. Luckily we were able to find one.

This commercial is sweet…and sad….and I love it.  I hope that you all had very special Thanksgivings.

Joey Ciaramitaro's avatarNortheast BBQ

Set up the kettle for snake method cooking where we light about a dozen briquettes and once they are going we put them on the start of the fuse or snake and let the coals work their way around the bowl for a low and slow cook  rather than what you’d do with a steak, searing it directly over high heat.

To prepare the roasts, I slathered them with EVOO and cut six slits in the top of each roast, inserting cloves of garlic.  Then a generous rubbing of Montreal steak seasoning all over.  Placing the roasts over tin pans to collect the drippings for gravy offset of…

Shout Out To Old School Service At Foster’s Grill Store! Thanks Boots!

Do you know we have probably the most knowledgeable and well stocked Grill Store on the North Shore right here in Gloucester MA? Better than any of the Big Box stores by a mile.

Go into one of the big box stores I dare you and see if they can pull out a parts catalog from 2000 for your classic grill you’re trying to find parts for.  Ain’t gonna happen.  But you know what? Foster’s has warehouses full of parts and inventory and they have guys like Billy and Boots that can help you locate it.

It’s Amazing How Stones Pub In Just a Few Short Years Has Become Such A Part Of The Gloucester Scene

We’re blessed in G-Town with many excellent Drinking and Dining establishments.  Whats amazing about Stones is how quickly they’ve become entrenched alongside long time standouts Halibut Point and The Rhumb Line.

The Shepherds Pie Last Night was Over The top.  So perfect for a cold windy night.

Kudos to Gary and Trish and Jamie for making this spot such a friendly joint, serving excellent fare with such a great staff.
