Chilly December morning sunrise at GHB today–only eight more days until the winter solstice, which is December 21st, and then the days will begin to get longer!
TWELVE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS CAROL COUNTDOWN: THE KILLERS’ NEW CHRISTMAS ALBUM “DON’T WASTE YOUR WISHES” FOR (RED)
Annually since 2006 the Killers have released a holiday-themed new single for Bono’s charity (RED), which strives to end aids in Africa. The band has collected all ten songs on a new website and Christmas album Don’t Waste Your Wishes, released on December 9th. Featured guests on the singles include Toni Halliday, Elton John, Jimmy Kimmel, Neil Tennant, and Dawes. The songs are melodic, quirky, comic, provocative, some a little dark, some beautifully moving, and the videos for each, always entertaining.
My favorite, “A Great Big Sled,”
“Joel the Lump of Coal”
“The Cowboy’s Christmas Ball”
There’s no video yet for this year’s single “I’ll be Home For Christmas” but here is a link to the website where you can hear it and all ten songs.

Holiday Cards Show the Passing of Time
Typically, we save all of the holiday cards that arrive in our mailbox for just one year. The boys love opening them each night and we keep them on display until it is time to pack up the other holiday decorations and Christmas tree ornaments. We then pack them away carefully and look forward to seeing the cards again the next year. After looking through them 12 months later, they are then recycled….even though it hurts a little to do so.
That being the case, I was surprised when my husband brought a large pile of cards down from the attic this year that were actually much older. This stack of cards was from the year 2000. 16 years ago.
16 years, it turns out, is a long time in Christmas Card years. For example, during the Christmas season of the year 2000, we were very recently engaged….but were not married and had no children. We had, in fact, not even sent out Christmas cards that year….but we had received a lot.
Going through that stack of cards ended up being rather bittersweet. A lot had changed. Some for the better, some for worse. Addresses…landscapes….faces….family dynamics….hair color….hair lines….furry friends….and more. Some single friends are now “coupled.” Some couples without children….now have several. Some married friends are now divorced….and some remarried. And, the hardest to discover, some (too many) of the cards were sent by friends and family who have since passed away. Worst of all are the family photos now missing a member….whose void is hard to believe.
Much love to all who are missing someone special this holiday season….and to those who know those voids all too well.

Help Backyard Growers spread garden magic across Gloucester!
December 12, 2016 ~ backyardgrowersgloucester ~
Did you know that gardens are magic?
I didn’t think there could possibly be enough room in our little backyard. But Backyard Growers came, and before I knew it, there was our garden. I couldn’t believe that I’d end up with food for my family if I just followed their directions. Plant some seeds. Water. Weed. The veggies appeared. And my kids actually ate them! Magic.
We’ve had our ups and downs. One summer Chris was injured and out of work. I was working, mothering, pregnant and tired, and money was tight. Our garden was the constant. Plant some seeds. Water. Weed. Magic.
Last fall, I got sick. Doctor visits, chemo and long hospital stays threw our family into a tailspin. I told my 3-year-old Dash, “Mom will be better when the plants come up.” I kept looking at my garden, praying that would happen.
Then Backyard Growers came.
I never asked for help, they just came. They planted my garden with such care and purpose. They brought bins of new soil. Their rows of seeds were so straight and evenly spaced. And the plants grew. Magic.
If you ever wonder about what a garden does for a person, a family, a community, come visit me on Harold Ave. Ask any of the kids. You grow a garden, magic happens!
You are part of this magic in our community. Thank you. So many in Gloucester struggle to put food on the table, and with your support, Backyard Growers can help.
Will you help us reach our $10,000 goal and build 40 more gardens next year by giving today? Every $250 raised is another garden. Another family’s table full of fresh, healthy food.
Another opportunity for magic.
Love,
Peggy Lyman, Backyard Growers Participant

At $499.99, For 95% of Computer Users This Is A perfect SetUp and All You Need To Spend On A PC
Dell Inspiron 24 3000 Series All-In-One (Intel Core i3, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD)
Read the Reviews and Buy it on Amazon Here $499.99
24 Inch Full HD Screen. Once you use a nice large display like this you’ll never want to squint into a tiny laptop again.
This isn’t for a power user like me that crunches huge videos and needs insane processing power. This is for everyone else that just likes to check their email, watch some YouTube videos, or Skype call their family members across the country. This offers everything 95% of people need but it comes at the cheap price because you’re not buying super crazy high end processors which like I said 95% of people never need.
It all comes with the pedestal stand and one-cord set up with wireless keyboard and mouse which even my mother could set up.
If you’re looking for a great computer (Rick Ardizzoni recommends Dells and it’s all I buy now because they are rock solid) for a cheap price with a nice big display this is the computer for you. If you are not editing HD videos all day or playing next year’s super high intense graphics computer games (if you’re over the age of 28 I’m guessing you’re not) then this is all the computer you need. It also comes with Windows 10 which is the best operating system Microsoft has ever put out. I hate seeing older people go to Best Buy and get up-selled into thinking they need an i7 processor and a terabyte of storage when they don’t need to spend $1000 and any one of them would be thrilled to be doing their computer stuff on this nice sleek system with a great sized screen for them to look at.
24 inch pedestal screen and built in speakers make it so you don’t have that tangled mess of wires running all over the place. This is a sleek computer at a total value of a price.
And if you need help setting it up you can call the guy I call for all my computer needs- Donna’s Husband Rick Moore Ardizzoni. He’s the best for your computer needs- 978-526-9222 http://www.circleconsulting.com/
So there you go, my pick for 95% of normal computer users value computer-

Music Around Town ~ December 12-18, 2016
John Prybot climbed City Hall tower. Have you?

On special days throughout the year like Middle Street Walk, the generous Gloucester City Hall Restoration Committee volunteers provide City Hall Tower tours. The weather for Saturday’s Middle Street Walk was sunny, but blustery and chilly. Joe Rosa greeted visitors. Maggie Rosa and Steve Dexter from Carroll Steel Insurance bundled up and stayed up just so guests could climb for sweeping panoramas.
John Prybot, Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free librarian, was kind enough to grab these photos. The angle and brightness of the sun favored a photographic vista in one direction: over and beyond the Sawyer Free library and Temple Ahavat Achim to the harbor and Stage Fort Park. You can see Middle Street steeples, the fire station, the lovely John and Dorothy Rando Memorial Garden and amphitheater, and the graceful balance of open space between the library, Central Grammar, and City hall. The library buildings and the temple architecture stand out and fit in.
