Osprey pair Annie and Squam are back in their nest behind LobstaLand and doing the things birds do in the spring: nest maintenance and mating. They have been very successful parents in the past so we will wait and see what happens next with them. I watch them on the Essex Greenbelt Osprey Cam link here and read the notes provided to keep up with their activities. It’s addicting (you’ve been warned). Happy Easter to you all. I hope you celebrate spring and have a wonderful day. **these are screenshots from the Essex Greenbelt Osprey Cam**

Cannabidiol “CBD” in Anxiety and Sleep: A Large Case Study. Wicked Interesting!
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of many cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis. It does not appear to alter consciousness or trigger a “high.” A recent surge in scientific publications has found preclinical and clinical evidence documenting value for CBD in some neuropsychiatric disorders, including epilepsy, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Evidence points toward a calming effect for CBD in the central nervous system. Interest in CBD as a treatment of a wide range of disorders has exploded, yet few clinical studies of CBD exist in the psychiatric literature.
Objective To determine whether CBD helps improve sleep and/or anxiety in a clinical population.
Design A large retrospective case series at a psychiatric clinic involving clinical application of CBD for anxiety and sleep complaints as an adjunct to usual treatment. The retrospective chart review included monthly documentation of anxiety and sleep quality in 103 adult patients.
Main Outcome Measures Sleep and anxiety scores, using validated instruments, at baseline and after CBD treatment.
Results The final sample consisted of 72 adults presenting with primary concerns of anxiety (n = 47) or poor sleep (n = 25). Anxiety scores decreased within the first month in 57 patients (79.2%) and remained decreased during the study duration. Sleep scores improved within the first month in 48 patients (66.7%) but fluctuated over time. In this chart review, CBD was well tolerated in all but 3 patients.
Conclusion Cannabidiol may hold benefit for anxiety-related disorders. Controlled clinical studies are needed.
It was fun to watch the GHS sail team out on the water on a windy afternoon recently. The sailboats seemed to skim across the water effortlessly but I know better than that. Some color out there was a sight for sore eyes. Another sign of spring.

Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department extinguished a kitchen fire in an apartment complex Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday, April 17, at about 12:29 p.m., Gloucester Fire was dispatched to 1110 Heights at Cape Ann for reports of a fire in the kitchen of an apartment.
Responding crews observed smoke showing from the side of the apartment building and took immediate action to knock the fire down. Crews were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire using a water can.
The fire was completely knocked down by 12:40 p.m. Crews remained on scene to ventilate the building and ensure the fire had not spread. A building inspector also arrived on scene for further examination.
Pets were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and were returned to their owners. No other injuries were reported.
Beauport Fire provided mutual aid on the scene, while Rockport Fire provided station coverage.
Gloucester Fire determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.

“Hey Joe, I got a great topic for you. What do we do with the Shrink wrap every year? It drives me nuts. I want to recycle it somehow. Good little topic for you. Hopefully you know the answer. Thank you for all your hard work. Awesome stuff.”
I’ll do some digging Joe and get some answers.
I asked Jamie Mathison and she pointed me in the right direction:
Seaside Sustainability is partnering with Dynamic Waste to distribute dumpster bins to different locations in the Cape Ann area so boaters can bring their shrink wrap to be recycled. The bins are accessible to the public during normal business hours throughout the week and the program is free and open to boat owners everywhere, no marina membership required. This program will run annually in Gloucester, Manchester, Essex, and Rockport from April to June. The plastic has to be free of foreign material (dirt, sand, trash, wooden supports, plastic vents) and rolled neatly before being placed in the dumpster bins.Dynamic Waste is committed to sustainability and diverting waste from landfills. It invests in our environment by ensuring the safe, practical, and economic recycling of many different types of waste.
On Wednesday Rick and I went to the Beauport Hotel for a delicious lunch. After lunch had to go do some errands and since it was not raining, we walked. The flowers from Generous Gardeners at the police station are looking pretty. Generous Gardeners does such a great job, and we thank them. Walking around St. Peter’s Square with the boats and lobster traps were getting ready for the summer.
