Indie-rock/alt-country musician Brad Byrd returns to Cape Ann for a show at Katrina’s, 14 Rogers Street, Gloucester, Wednesday, at 9 p.m. Formerly of Rockport, Byrd in June released his critically acclaimed, third studio album, “Highest Mountain.” Many of the songs on “Highest Mountain” were written, composed, and recorded on Cape Ann and in Los Angeles.
Byrd’s music has been featured on film and TV, most recently on FOX’s “New Girl” and ABC’s “American Housewife,” along with radio stations across the country.
On Wednesday night, Byrd will be performing with a nationally recognized backing band of NYC- and Boston-based musicians. Opening for Byrd at 8 p.m. will be James Vassallo of “Above Water,” who lives in Rockport. Admission is free. Copies of “Highest Mountain” on both CD and vinyl will be available at the show, as will other merchandise.
For more details about Byrd, “Highest Mountain,” and his 2017 U.S. tour, visit http://www.bradbyrdofficial.com.
Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to experience a nationally recognized artist with deep Cape Ann roots. ![]()
I spent such a wonderful morning at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum a couple of week’s ago. It had been far too long since I had taken advantage of that particular gem of maritime history and I am so glad that I did!

Huzzy today with Tuffy-

This morning people all along the coast of Texas are waking to the remnants of Hurricane Harvey and wondering how they are going to deal with the aftermath. From the few reports coming out, it can’t get worse than in our sister city Rockport, TX, with reports of a collapsed roof at the school, multiple residences flattened or flooded, and numerous casaulties and injuries.
As their neighbors in spirit, from Rockport, MA, we are looking to raise money to make an impact as they rise from the destruction Mother Nature has indiscriminantly thrown in their path. From experience, with our distance, getting first-response aid to them is nearly impossible at this time. So we are looking to make a medium or long-term investment in their recovery. We are reaching out to friends and family with contacts in Rockport to determine what projects we can make the most impact on. We will take a poll before making the final contribution.
Initial ideas for final donation:
– School system to aid in the repair of the High School that was heavily damaged or replacement of damaged books, etc.
– Senior center with damaged roof
– Volunteer Fire Department (from our volunteer FD)

Our Niles Pond rescue swan has survived her second night! She is still not venturing far from the reeds. Mr. Swan is definitely aware of her presence but is playing coy and for the most part, ignoring her. The good news, or great news I should say, is that he is not chasing and threatening her.
New Swan is continuing to feed on pond vegetation. I didn’t get a glimpse of her until around 11am when the light was very harsh, but here she is at the pond’s edge, photo bombed by a stealthy Green Heron.

The other day Rick and I took Hannah and Riley to Maritime Gloucester. What a great time. The touch tank is terrific and the interns who teach the kids are wonderful. Take yourself and family to Maritime Gloucester. For more information please follow the link below.

After our visit to Kansas City and Kaufman Stadium we took the 3 1/2 hour drive over to St. Louis to check ballpark #13 off our list. Our hotel right across the street had a great view of the Stadium so Neil got to watch the Friday night game against Tampa from the comfort of our room! Busch Stadium is a great stadium right in downtown St. Louis with great views and great vibe. I’d put it on the top of the list of the fields we visited so far (behind Fenway, Camden Yards and Wrigley..so far!). The specialty food of this park is “Dinger Donuts” which are 50 donuts in a plastic hat with choice of vanilla or chocolate glaze. Yum! We have had a busy, but super memorable few days….next up we are tossing around a Tampa, Miami and Georgia road trip!
