Successful Owl Prowl

We took a ride north, as we often do to see what we might see. On this wonderful day, Jim found me 2 long eared owls resting within a bunch of bushes and small trees. One was very hard to see well but the other one was sitting there like he was waiting for me. They are really quite beautiful. I appreciate the helpful nature of birders as there was one helpful kind soul who helped us out quite a bit. Uncovering Rockport’s Dark Past: Author Talk with Rob Fitzgibbons & Wayne Soini

 ~ SAWYER FREE LIBRARY

Join local authors Robert Fitzgibbons and Wayne Soini at the Sawyer Free Library on Thursday, March 27 at 5:30 pm for a riveting discussion on their book, Murder in Rockport, Massachusetts: Terror in a Small Town, which sheds new light on two chilling unsolved murders that shook the small seaside town in the 1930s.

On May 21, 1932, Finnish tailor Arthur Oker was brutally murdered in his shop in Rockport, sending shockwaves through the community. Just over a year later, on Halloween night in 1933, Swedish immigrant and fellow churchgoer Augusta Johnson was slain in her home, deepening the town’s fear and sparking an exhaustive investigation. Authorities searched every house, interviewed 2,500 households, and even enlisted the help of a mystic—yet the crimes remained unsolved.

Through newly uncovered state police archives, Fitzgibbons and Soini reveal long-lost details about the murders, the extensive efforts to solve them, and a surprising suspect who emerged decades later.

Irish Coffee At 525

In the final segment of random and occasional Irish Coffee posts for 2025, I conclude with a logical choice: 525 Tavern in Magnolia on Lexington Ave. We stopped by after having been away for a while because it’s like joining a group of good friends for a relaxed evening. Who could resist it when Chrissy, our server, said to as we were seated: “Should I start the coffee for your Irish coffee?” YES please. This is the result with the very well placed creme de menthe top-off! It’s a “sturdy” Irish coffee served in my preferred style of mug. A perfect end to my meal AND this series for 2025. Slainte!

Yummy Arugula Salad at the Seaport Grille

Unfortunately, I am allergic to seafood, which saddens me, the Seaport Grille offers other options, I had the Arugula Fig Salad with prosciutto.  It was amazing.  I still miss having seafood, but the Seaport Grille never disappoints.
