GLOUCESTER — Assistant Fire Chief Robert Rivas is pleased to report that Gloucester Firefighter Patrick Legro was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. 

Lt. Legro is a Tewksbury native who joined the Gloucester Fire Department in 2013 after earning his EMT and Paramedic certifications, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University. 

He was initially assigned to Rescue 1, and has since worked in numerous fire stations around the city. He was promoted to temporary lieutenant in August and earned a permanent promotion that went into effect this week. 

Lt. Legro will now serve on Ladder 1 in Group 3, based at Fire Headquarters. He was also selected to be part of the District 6 HazMat Team, which responds to hazmat incidents around the entire region.

He lives in Groveland with his wife Kristen, 6-year-old son Colin and 4-year-old daughter Emilia Rae. 

“Lt. Legro is a highly qualified, dedicated firefighter, and I look forward to seeing where else his career will take him,” said Assistant Chief Rivas.

“The support from 100 Women Who Care Cape Ann is an incredible gift, not just financially but as a vote of confidence in the power of the arts,” said Elizabeth Carey, CEO of the Rocky Neck Art Colony. “This funding allows us to continue offering exhibitions, workshops, and outreach programs that make the arts accessible through a newly created website.  It keeps our vibrant creative community in the hearts and minds of all” added Susan Alvey, Development Board Chair.

Rocky Neck Art Colony is the oldest and cherished artist community in the United States, serving as a vital hub for artists and art lovers for generations. With this award, the organization will continue to enhance communication, marketing, programming, accessibility, and ensure that Rocky Neck remains a dynamic center for creative expression.

We took a ride and stopped to watch happenings along the Ipswich River a day or so ago. We were delighted by this trio of loons hanging out and feasting. The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents Miranda Aisling in concert on April 5^th in the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church

Local interdisciplinary artist Miranda Aisling (ash-lean) will perform a folk concert at the Gloucester Meetinghouse on Saturday, April 5th at 7:30pm. Aisling will be joined by musicians Matt Lefebvre on bass and Phil Benjamin on guitar, adding rich layers to her evocative folk sound. 

Aisling’s original folk songs blend frank vulnerability with insightful social commentary. A classically trained pianist who shifted from Bach to the Indigo Girls, she brings the lively spirit of a folk festival to her performances, engaging audiences with a mix of sung and spoken storytelling.

Since moving to Gloucester in 2019, Aisling has performed to enthusiastic full houses at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center, the Manship Artists Retreat, and MAGMA (Movement Arts, Gloucester, MA). As a member of the Treehouse Charlatans, she has performed at the Lanesville Music Festival, the Cape Ann Museum, and Art in the Barn.

The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is located at the corner of Church and Middle Streets (GPS 50 Middle Street). Parking is available on the green. The admission for the event is $20 General, $5 Students (all ages), under 12 free.  An elevator is available from the side door at 10 Church Street. We stopped by the newly re-done Charlie’s Place for lunch this week. For the record, it feels like exactly the same Charlie’s Place on Bass Ave that you remember, just a bit fresher. The service is the same friendly efficient service you are accustomed to. I ordered the reuben that was on the specials sheet for the day and Jim got a grilled cheese and tomato. The reuben was outstanding….I like my to KNOW there’s sauerkraut on my reuben and this one hit the spot. Jim always enjoys his grilled cheese which must be fairly popular as I heard others placing the same order. But the highlight of my visit to Charlie’s is always the strawberry shortcake. I love the warm biscuits and the real strawberries. Perfection. Thanks Charlie’s! We are very glad you are back!
