Happy Mother’s Day to you all. Here you see my Gloucester grandmother and great grandmother. These women influenced by life in ways that can’t yet be entirely accounted for. My paternal grandmother Catherine Pierce was a beautiful woman inside and out her whole life. We did not get to see much of her as we lived in Western NY for most of my childhood, but her impact was great. I have many fond memories of her spoiling us all. I remember she was often smiling and laughing. It’s a comforting memory. I never knew her mother (Edna Handran Pierce) but I think the resemblance is very strong. Edna suffered difficulties throughout her life but demonstrated resilience as I’ve been told. These are admirable qualities from both women to pass down along the generations. I hope you’ll take a moment to recognize the mothers in your past and consider their influences on your daily life. From left to right: Catherine, Edna, Catherine with my dad Paul.

🥕 Join us for a Sip & Sow evening at Cape Ann Lanes and Laneside Pub & Brewery, where we’ll share tips and guidance for successfully starting your own veggie garden in containers this year. Backyard Growers will be planting herbs and veggies for the season in the brewery’s beer garden planters.
🍻 Thanks to Laneside Brewery for collaborating with Backyard Growers on Grow Wild, their new limited edition sour featuring prickly pear. $1 from every Grow Wild goes to supporting Backyard Growers’ programs in the community connecting people with the resources, space, and knowledge they need to grow their own food.
💚 Your ticket purchase for this event also supports Backyard Growers’ programs.
🍅 Come on down to chat veggie gardens and enjoy a delicious brew!

I was walking at the waters edge when a group of Plover chicks started moving towards me. That’s not fair we’re not allowed to approach them but where are the signs for the Plovers to stay away from us? Is that fair?
Always fun being part of this wonderful community.

GLOUCESTER, MA
Jon Sarkin’s Fish City Studios, the heartbeat of outsider and experimental art on the North Shore will transform its 39 Main Street gallery into a three‑hour mash‑up of turntables, live painting, and new, fresh boundary‑pushing visuals on Saturday, May 24, from 5-8 PM.
The one‑night happening features:
“We’re turning Sarkin’s studio into a living laboratory where DJs, painters, and photographers collide—live, loud, and unfiltered,” says gallery director Mark Henderson.
The exhibition itself is open May 15–30 (Mon-Sat 10am-5pm) but the Memorial Day weekend reception is the only chance to experience the DJs and live art performance together.
Admission: Free. Walk‑ins welcome; RSVP appreciated on Facebook.
Parking: Free after 4 p.m.
Address: Jon Sarkin’s Fish City Studios, 39 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930
