My View of Life on the Dock

Which local ice cream shop wants to add flights to their menu with customized flight boards? I saw a place out of town that offers these and think it’s brilliant. While I’ve enjoyed beer flights and bourbon flights, etc. I’ve never seen an ice cream flight. I did a quick Amazon search and saw some available…. I bet there are some craftsmen who make wooden signs, cheeseboards, cutting boards, etc who could make some custom ones for local shops as well.

Recently we drove to Newburyport just to wander around a bit because we hadn’t explored that area in a while. We had lunch at The Port Tavern on State St in Newburyport and enjoyed the experience enough to share it with you. It’s an Irish Pub that is deceptively large. The street view doesn’t do justice to the inside, though the outside seating was tempting. Jim got bangers with fries and I had the shaved beef sandwich. The beef wasn’t quite “shaved” the way I expected, but the sandwich was very satisfying especially since I prefer sandwiches that are mouth-sized and not Paul Bunyan style. It was pretty quiet in there that day and the service was very good. I think we’ll put it on the list for the Irish Coffee tastings in March!

He may have logged more hours on his boat than anyone else. Rumor has it that he bought this boat new back in the 60s and has been through 3-4 motors. You can catch him cruising Gloucester Harbor or the River on any given day.

Paint Factory in Rough Shape, originally uploaded by captjoe06.
The Paint Factory isn’t looking so good.
It’s too bad that the guy that proposed to make a residence out of the place and maintain the exterior exactly the way it is wasn’t allowed to. Otherwise instead of deteriorating like this, it could have been preserved for all of us to enjoy and payed for with private dollars.
The obstructionists that got in the way can rejoice in another project they stymied.
Hooray!

While the 2025 Commercial Striped Bass Fishery was closed as of August, 6th the number of boats in a consolidated little area off the back shore was indicative of a pretty good bite just a few short days before it closed.

We were pleased to be gifted this lovely personalized hanging plaque designed by our very own Pauline of Pauline’s Gifts on Essex Ave. Many of you know Jim and I recently celebrated our anniversary and we held a little party to celebrate. Many friends and family members joined us including my thoughtful brother and sister-in-law (Hail Chris and Lori). They are the ones that contacted Pauline’s and consulted with her about designing a perfect personalized gift which now proudly hangs at our home. Pauline hit all the marks featuring the Schooner Ardelle, our twin lighthouses and more on a slate tile. This photo doesn’t do it justice but if you need a special gift, contact Pauline for ideas and input. Her website link is here and you can find her on Facebook/Instagram as well. Thank you Pauline, Chris, Lori and everyone who took time to wish us well.

National Lighthouse Day…

Hello,
Meet Vivi! This adorable 11-month-old short-legged pup is full of love, energy, and personality! Vivi is a social butterfly who gets along great with kids and other dogs, making her an ideal companion for an active family. Vivi is still very much a puppy at heart and has the energy to prove it-she’ll thrive in a home that can give her plenty of playtime, exercise, and mental stimulation. She’s also a big fan of chewing so some good toys that will help satisfy her urge to chew should be a bit hit with her! While Vivi is sweet and friendly with people and dogs, like many pups, she can’t resist chasing after squirrels and rabbits. Because of this, she’s not a good fit for a home with cats or other small animals. She’s a great co-pilot for car rides which she loves and is also crate trained! Vivi is truly a happy little love bug who’s very enthusiastic about finding her forever home! Do you think she sounds like the perfect pup for you?
Vivi is now a part of our extended stay club, meaning that her adoption fee has been reduced in hopes that she may find a home a bit easier! Apply for Vivi today at: capeannanimalaid.org/dogapp
