Take a walk around beautiful Magnolia and enjoy music around every corner! This year there’s more porches, more music and more fun. Gloucester’s Lobster Roller, Meats & Sweets, and Holy Cow Ice Cream are all joining us along the way in addition to Magnolia’s 525 restaurant, Grillfriends, and JD Myers. Porches will be swingin’ from 4 to 6, and Funbucket will keep it going in the park by our fire station. until 8. Bring a beach chair or blanket to sit in the park, or dance by the ocean. It’s time to crank up your summer – starting at the Magnolia PorchFest!

Non-Profit and Community Recipients to be Celebrated at CACFโs June 5 Event
The Cape Ann Community Foundation (CACF) announced the recipients of its 2025 grants, selecting nine organizations from the record 40 applications received earlier this year.
The Cape Ann Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization established in 2015 by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce to manage and award grants from the proceeds from sales of the Cape Ann License Plate. CACF makes grants for projects that support the foundationโs mission to improve the economy and overall quality of life for the residents of Cape Ann.
The following 2025 grant recipients represent a variety of programs benefiting the Cape Ann community:
Cape Ann Pride โ their grant will be used to help fund educational and social events for this yearโs Cape Ann Pride celebration (May 29-June 1)
Cape Ann Vernal Pond โ this grant will be used to purchase a new computer that supports communications and education programs
ConnecTones โ the grant would help fund a program bringing live, intergenerational music experiences to independently living seniors and the greater Cape Ann community
Educational Foundation for Rockport โ their grant will be used to allow small children and people in wheelchairs to view the night through a community telescope
Essex Elementary School โ this grant will be used to support a program exposing students to live performances that help them learn about the Cape Ann community through music
Lanes Coven Theater Company โ the grant would be used to support a program making performances more accessible for those facing financial barriers
Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library โ their grant will be used to provide greater library accessibility to the neurodiverse community
Maritime Gloucester โ the grant will be used to expand the Ocean Explorers program to 3rdโ5th grade classrooms in Rockport, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea
Together Gloucester โ this grant will be used to provide sneakers to children whose families may not be able to receive support for this type of assistance
These grant recipients will be celebrated at the Foundationโs second annual Candlepins for a Cause event at Cape Ann Lanes on June 5. They will be joined by past CACF grant recipients and friends of the Foundation to spotlight CACF support for community organizations and programs and promote adoption of the Cape Ann License Plates. The sale of Cape Ann license plates and direct donations to CACF make the Foundation grants possible.
Anyone interested in fielding a team can do so with a $200 donation. Individual bowlers can participate with a$35 donation to the Foundation. Those who would like to attend the event and cheer on the bowlers โ and support the Foundation โ are asked to make a $20 donation.
Bowlers and other attendees can register by clicking on the event link on the Foundationโs www.lovecapeann.com website.
โThe financial support we hope to generate with Candlepins for a Cause โ along with the revenue from the Cape Ann license plate and direct donations to the Foundation โ will help us continue to assist our regionโs non-profit and community organizations,โ said CACF Co-Chair Britta Cahoon.
โCandlepins for a Cause event will be a fun way to help the Foundation continue its work while honoring the organizations that serve the Cape Ann community as well as the supporters who make our efforts possible ,โ said Tony Sapienza, CACF Co-Chair.

Host Families Needed for Gloucester/Tamano Homestay Program
Let’s Show Our Sister City a Gloucester Hospitality!
We are super excited to announce that students from our sister city, Tamano City, Japan, will be visiting us this summer! To make their stay unforgettable, we need some awesome host families. This is a fantastic opportunity for fun and cultural exchange, and we would love for you to be a part of it!
Host Family Opportunity:
Students: 3 females and 2 males ages 15 to 17.
Chaperone: 1 female adult
From: Tamano City, Japan โ Gloucesterโs sister city
Dates: Arriving Wednesday, July 23 in the evening; Departing Sunday morning, August 3
Why Host?
Cultural Exchange: Enjoy a meaningful cultural exchange that enriches your family’s experience and broadens your global perspective.
Minimal Commitment: Students will be busy with English lessons and excursions during weekdays, so your primary responsibilities will be providing breakfast, dinner (during the week), and sharing all meals during the weekends with your family.
Self-Sufficient Students: Students bring their own spending money and manage their own lunch at local restaurants during the week.
Your Role as a Host:
Provide a welcoming and supportive environment.
Provide breakfast and dinner during the week and all meals on the weekends.
Share your local customs and family life.
Enjoy the company of your international guest during the evenings and weekends.
Join the Gloucester Host Family Community!
Be a part of an unforgettable experience that has brought joy and global connections to our community for years. Hosting these students is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Gloucester’s warmth and hospitality.
If you have any questions or would like to become a host family, please feel free to contact Jason & Shannon Hakes. <jhakes1978@gmail.com>

You and me go fishinโ in the dark. No surprise that my son was down on the docks looking for striper late last night.
