Virginia Frontiro McKinnon

Virginia Frontiero McKinnon received a Special Citation from the office of Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken on the occasion of her 90th Birthday on July 24, 2019.

The Citation read: as Mayor of the City of Gloucester, one of the pleasures of office is the opportunity to recognize in an official way, special happenings in the

lives of extraordinary people. Thus, I am delighted to take a moment to salute you upon such a milestone of achieving the age of 90.

Mayor Sefatia also stated at a young age she was inspired to select her career to be an advocate to helping people, as she watched Virginia work as a Social Worker,

especially with the Italian Community.

Virginia’s sisters, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were present to witness this special occasion.

The wreck of the lobster traps – Long Beach after the storm

Tangled lobster trap clots washed ashore after this week’s nor’easter, landing on the Rockport side of Long Beach between fire break #3 and the bridge to Cape Hedge. “Looks like a shipwreck,” people remarked.

The sand was stripped away from the riprap but the seawall is fine. The high tides did not swamp the wall or reach the street.

Meadowbrook Farms is Charming

I took a new route back home recently and found Meadowbrook Farms along Rt. 22 just outside Essex ( technically 247 Essex St South Hamilton) and was completely charmed by the employees and goods offered. I am not sure why I was surprised to see Virgilios items available, but there they were along with many other local offerings. Katie told me her Dad’s been farming for 60 years and that the business has been run since 1974. She and her brother Michael are transitioning into ownership. Organic practices are in place for the crops and the extra care shows in the selection. Check it out for yourself!

And how much does this picture of Katie harvesting pumpkins say FALL?! I am sorry I forgot the other woman’s name, but it was wonderful to meet you both.

NATURE RARER USES YELLOW

Day three of the October nor’easter so rather than post more photos of dreary gray skies and wind and waves, here’s a sunny yellow photo to lift your spirits. The photo was taken during this year’s historic Monarch migration. Loving this weather because it’s providing an opportunity to sort through the multitude of butterfly photos shot in September and October 🙂

Wingaersheek Beach: kite surfing fruit slices & windy choppy waves on day 3 nor’easter #GloucesterMA

I wondered what impact the storm had on Wingaersheek and was surprised by penny candy on the horizon. If surf on the ocean side is not amenable, there are so many alternate beach options in Gloucester.
