No Shadow = Early Spring!

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning, therefore predicting an early spring. This is a rare call on his part, having happened only 20 times in the history of Groundhog Day predictions, and never twice in a row! Here’s a link to some interesting historial tidbits in case you have nothing to read with your Sunday morning coffee.

Rescue-Restore-Respect: Saving This Puckerbutt 1995 @WeberGrills Outrider

Joey Ciaramitaro's avatarNortheast BBQ

Whoever bought this poor grill back in 1995 (it’s an EO vent code) installed it’s legs upside down making it look very strange and making it’s footprint incredibly narrow and dangerous as it would be pretty top-heavy loaded with lit coals and meat.

History of theSmokey Joe Platinum (AKA Jumbo Joe or Outrider) – Introduced in 1990 from the Weber Kettle Club

After unsticking the rusted on bolts with pb-blaster and replacing all of the hardware with stainless bolts, sanding down the wood handle and applying three coats of teak oil, adding side vents and cleaning her up she’s looking mighty spiffy.

Higher is better. Will your scores be going down soon?
In January, Fair Isaac Corp., the company behind the FICO credit score, announced that its latest model will start incorporating consumers’ debt levels into their scores.
According to FICO estimates:

►About 110 million consumers will see a change to their score under the new model.

►Roughly 40 million will see a shift upward over 20 points.

►Another 40 million will see a shift downward over 20 points.

If your plans for 2020 include buying a new home or refinancing your current loan, let’s discuss how these changes in credit scores could affect your timetable. We’re here to answer your questions!

Did you choose a FREE sterling silver spoon THEN? Shop Small 1952 #GloucesterMA Art Jewelers gift for GHS graduates

In 1952*, Art Jewelers on 117 Main Street (now Unwind) in Gloucester, Massachusetts, offered GHS female graduates a FREE sterling silver teaspoon in a pattern of their choice.

Pauline Bresnahan writes about a great conversation she had with her mother this week:  “We were talking about running a small business on Main Street today compared to when she was growing up here. She told me about the following story which I had not heard before. My Mom Graduated GHS in 1952. Art Jewelers on Main St. offered each Female Graduate a FREE Sterling Silver teaspoon in a pattern of their choice. My Mom picked Blossom Time, an International Silver Co. pattern. She and my Dad were married in 1953 and by then purchased 7 more teaspoons. They were gifted more place settings as a wedding gift.”

Other businesses catered to students, too. Gloucester Pants Co. at 211 Main Street advertised “special rates to students” in the yearbook. Nichols Candy and Luncheonette was across the street in 118 Main Street, where Franklin is now. There were several jewelers on Main Street. (Pauline worked at Blanchards and remembers her boss taking them to Cameron’s for celebrations.)

*How many possible spoons? The GHS1952 senior class size looks to be  > 250 inyearbook.
