My View of Life on the Dock
It’s a bleak Thursday morning. Can we fast forward to Fiesta?

I hope all who pray to St. Joseph are blessed today. Here’s a little acknowledgement that appeared in the Mar 18 1924 edition of the Gloucester Daily Times regarding St. Joseph’s Day. I do not know why it was celebrated on March 18 that year, perhaps someone has a thought? Thinking of all the novena ladies today! Also, happy first day of spring to all!

Information, from Dr. Safier, Regarding Internet Access
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
Comcast has announced that it will be offering its Internet Essentials program for free to new low-income customers for two months, amid the coronavirus outbreak. This offer is for low-income families who do not have internet service during this uncertain time and is intended to help them stay connected to families, school, workplaces, etc.
New customers will get complimentary internet essentials service for 60 days, which is normally available to qualified low-income households for $9.95 per month.
All new customers will receive a free self-install kit that includes a cable modem and WiFi router. There is no term contract.
To sign up, applicants can simply visit www.internetessentials.com. The accessible website also includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in American Sign Language. There are also two dedicated phone numbers 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.
If you need any assistance, please contact me at rsafier@gloucesterschools.com and I will connect you with our Information Technology Dept. I am hoping that students who do not have Internet access at home have mobile phones and can receive this message. But, if you know someone who could use this offer, please let them know it is available.
Richard Safier, Superintendent
Note: Comcast has also announced: Xfinity WiFi Free For Everyone: Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.
Yesterday afternoon at the Fish Pier this unusually nearly all white gull was foraging about. It was so pretty and didn’t seem to mind too much my inching closer to take a photo. I at first thought perhaps it was a leucistic Herring Gull but now think it is a first year Glaucus Gull.
A friend shared the following on fb today. I thought it so true and beautiful-
The Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
-Wendell Berry
One hundred and ninety-two feet of new dockage is being installed at Ocean Alliance’s headquarters at the old Paint Manufactory. Work began today and will continue through Friday. The E-shaped dock will be accessed via a new gangplank and until that is installed a temporary gangplank is going up.
Alicia Pensarosa, Ocean Alliance’s assistant director writes, “The new docks will be available for transient/seasonal rentals with the goal of getting more commercial, research, schooner, and educational vessels coming to Gloucester.” The new docks look beautiful and it’s a hopeful sign for Gloucester to see work continue during these unprecedented times of hardship.
Took a walk to get some fresh air on Tuesday after the rain. Such a pretty walk and as you can see the pier is really coming along.

Beginning tomorrow March 19, 2020, Market Basket will initiate senior shopping hours specifically geared to accommodate the needs of our customers 60 and older.
Each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM the stores will be open ONLY to serve customers 60 and older.
This is designed to enable these members of our community who are at greater risk with the coronavirus to shop in a less crowded environment, which enables social distancing.
We ask that you please respect the necessity of a special shopping environment for our most vulnerable neighbors.
Thank you for your help in protecting our neighbors and community.

Well, I’m sure it will be entertaining so you won’t want to miss seeing me dancing in my office. Hopefully the technology gremlins will be in quarantine and not bothering us.
OK so here is how it works. It will be easier for you if you download the Zoom client for meetings for a desktop or laptop, or the app for phones and tablets.
Click here for the link to download the client or the app
Then click on this link to bring you to the list of my Zoom meetings
You will want to click on the Thurs. 10 am class. Otherwise you will be all alone!
If you have downloaded the client/app, the meeting will open automatically in that interface.
If you have not downloaded the app/client, it should open in a web browser.
You can join early and sit in the waiting room. I’m not sure what…

Kudos to the Cincinnati Zoo for starting this daily Zoo-to-You at Home Safari schedule. With the zoo closed they wanted to find a way to enrich the lives of the children who would have visited and continue to spread the word about their awesome residents.
Each day at 3:00pm they go live on their facebook page for a 15 minute interaction with one of the zoo residents. If you miss the live video, fret not. The video is then uploaded to a page on their website along with some fun follow up activities.
On Monday we met Fiona the hippo and on Tuesday we met Pico the Porcupine.
