This week’s Live Music schedule for the Rhumb Line.

Virgilio’s For Hot Lunch
I don’t know about your school days, but we used to have to declare if we wanted to”hot lunch” or not each school day. I was reminded of those days on a recent cool and dreary day at the shop. So I went to Virgilio’s on Main St for a soothing hot lunch: American Chop Suey ( though we called it goulash in my house). PS and BTW, this was absolutely delicious and satisfying. There was enough left for another meal. Yes, I could make it myself….but…I don’t….(and Virgilio’s does)

JR Lodge along with Anthony Caturano, Liz Caturano, Buddy Doucette, Alison DiFiore and Jon McDonald were in the water actively saving these poor elderly women whose car plunged into the harbor at St Peter’s Parking lot
JR Lodge along with Anthony Caturano, Liz Caturano, Buddy Doucette, Alison DiFiore and Jon McDonald were in the water actively saving these poor elderly women. If they weren’t right there it would have been disastrous as they were submerged over head and thankfully lobstermen Mark and JR had the knives and hammer to break the window and with Buddy cut the the woman loose. Scary situation. Please offer prayers for these poor women and honor the people that acted quickly to save them!
Second Cape Ann Pride Celebration to Take Place May 29 to June 8

May 20, 2025 – Using the theme “Survive and Thrive,” Cape Ann Pride Week will take place with events planned around Cape Ann from Thursday, May 29, to Sunday, June 8, 2025. The event will build off the success of last year’s first ever Cape Ann Pride Weekend, which brought together adults and teens with families and allies and people who just like fun in celebration and support of the LGBTQIA+ community and culture on Cape Ann.
This year’s Cape Ann Pride Week, which coincides with the start of Pride Month in June, is organized by the Cape Ann Pride Coalition and the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.
The week will feature a series of events including a Pride Kick-off Party, “Out by the Ocean,” at DRIFT; a “Pride on the Pier” dance on the pier behind Maritime Gloucester; Pride religious services around the region; a “Cape Ann Bowls with Pride” event for LGBTQIA+ youth, families and friends at Cape Ann Lanes; a rooftop fundraiser at sunset, “Oceans of Pride,” at Beauport Hotel; a dance for teens at MAGMA (organized by LGBTeens of Cape Ann); “Karaoke With Pride” at Harbor9 Golf; an “Embrace the Rainbow” cabaret at Rockport Music; and pride flag raisings in at least three Cape Ann towns.
Last year, hundreds of people including teens, families and Allies attended Cape Ann Pride Weekend events, raising awareness of and respect for LGBTQIA+ residents, friends, neighbors and business owners who have long called Cape Ann home. The Pride effort on Cape Ann is unusual because it is organized by a partnership between the grassroots Cape Ann Pride Coalition and the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce made up of local business members.

STEPHEN BATES TO PRESENT UNIQUE FUSION OF ART AND MUSIC
The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA 01930 – June 1 at 2:00PM
Date: Sunday, June 1
Time: 2:00PM-3:30PM
Admission: Free and open to the public (donations to RNAC is encouraged)
Gloucester, MA — Rocky Neck Art Colony is pleased to present a special performance by artist and musician Stephen Bates on
Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 PM. This multidisciplinary event will feature Bates’ original paintings alongside live musical compositions, performed by the artist himself on clarinet, flute, and bass clarinet.
Bates has created four evocative paintings for this performance—three inspired by powerful stories from the Old Testament, and a fourth interpreting William Blake’s visionary poem The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. Each artwork is accompanied by an original piece of music composed by Bates, exploring the emotional and thematic depth of the subjects.
With a distinguished career as a clarinetist in the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra for 36 years (1973–2009), Bates has long pursued a parallel passion for the visual arts. Since moving to Manchester, he has taught silk painting in Gloucester for over a decade, continuing to explore the interplay between music and visual expression.
In this interactive presentation, Bates invites the audience to reflect on and discuss the underlying themes of each artwork after hearing its corresponding musical piece. The stories depicted include Eve’s acceptance of the forbidden fruit, God’s promise to Noah, the worship of the golden calf, and a bold artistic and musical response to Blake’s Marriage of Heaven and Hell.
This event promises to be a rich, thought-provoking experience where music, art, and dialogue converge. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with Stephen Bates’ unique vision at the intersection of creativity and conversation.
