Well, I guess if ever there was a time to intentionally break tradition it is 2020. Unintentionally, we had a smaller Thanksgiving gathering than normal and we will NOT be cutting down our tree today….as we have for 10 years in a row….on the day after Thanksgiving at the Beverly Tree Farm. They have made the decision not to open this year. Normally, on Thanksgiving night, for as long as I can remember, we hunker down and watch the Polar Express with blankets, hot cocoa, and popcorn. At 13.5 and 11.5 years old, the boys decided that it might be time for a new movie. So, in keeping with 2020 new tradition of, in fact, breaking tradition, we scrolled through Netflix and found a new option.
We assumed our favorite positions on respective couches and found “The Christmas Chronicles.” It was really cute….and I won’t be surprised if 364 days from now we’re watching it again.
“The story of sister and brother, Kate and Teddy Pierce, whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about.”

Thanksgiving this year will look different for most of us this year. After a long year of the pandemic, we have found ourselves still here. While many of us would love to gather with loved ones, and overindulge in Thanksgiving dinner, that’s not possible for everyone. It’s a hard truth. As we add the holiday season to the long list of things that won’t be the same, we can still be grateful for the home we have.

While not everyone has endured the same hardships, this year has been challenging for all of us. But we adapt. We can mourn the loss of our loud and chaotic holiday, and move forward. Not cooking a meal for 20 people this year might give you an opportunity to try some recipes or make room for new traditions. Wishing all a Happy Thanksgiving, this was taken at Corliss Landing in Gloucester. So thankful to live in such a beautiful place.

Here are a few November ‘feast for the eyes’ golden scenes over the river, marsh, and creek and through the woods, grass and sands to wherever you call home.

Obviously this is a Thanksgiving like no other in my lifetime. Like many others, I am sacrificing time with loved ones in hopes we will be able to celebrate together again very soon. It is not without pain and some questioning on my part about just how much risk to take. We all need to make those decisions for ourselves and for those we love. We also need to respect the decisions of others to do the same. I hope you take some extra time to express gratitude today.
And…..since many of us have big birds on our mind today, I thought you might enjoy some of the birds I have recently seen. We went looking for the snowy owl, but found these white birds (and a soaring eagle) instead. We also found snow geese, a first for me!
