Soft fade….

Some wonderful volunteers working on the renovations at the Magnolia Library

This January I will be lending my time and effort to help re-design the library room at the Magnolia Library and Community Center. This is a really important space to our family and it is important that it continue to serve the community.

The Bookstore of Gloucester will be carrying copies of Ella’s Adventures in the Great Barrier Reef. Pictured here is owner Arwen Severance with the book. Proceeds from the sales of Ella’s Adventures supports Ocean Alliance’s research expeditions.
The Bookstore of Gloucester is open for browsing and is following COVID-19 Protocols. The Bookstore is located at 61 Main Street and is currently open Sun-Thurs 10am-5pm, Fri-Sat 10am-6pm. Stop by to purchase from a selection of great books and stationary items.

Ella’s Adventures in the Great Barrier Reef follows the adventures of a rescued sea turtle and her friends, and is based on a true story.

Ella’s Adventures is written by Ocean Alliance’s good friend and SnotBot Expedition photographer Christian Miller. Christian is an award-winning nature and wildlife photographer, a photo artist and a filmmaker. The book is dedicated to protecting the oceans. A portion of the proceeds of each copy will be supporting carefully chosen conservation projects, like Ocean Alliance’s SnotBot expeditions!

Several days ago, we stopped to check the progress of rebuilding Essex Seafood on Eastern Ave in Essex. It’s coming right along and looks like it will be “bigger and better”! Great news for all of us. Check them out on Facebook under Essex Seafood.

Silver and gold….

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 7, 2021
THE GLOUCESTER MEETINGHOUSE FOUNDATION PRESENTS THE FIFTH ANNUAL CELEBRATION FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY ONLINE
The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation Presents the Fifth Annual Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day called Listening to Generations of Local Voices. The online event will premiere on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2 p.m. on the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation YouTube channel and will be available anytime afterwards on YouTube in case you miss the premiere.
The presentation is a collage assembled from videos of Cape Ann residents interwoven with excerpts from speeches by Dr. King and John Lewis. It will honor MLK, who lived his beliefs that all men are created equal and that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. It will also remind us as John Lewis did, to remain persistent and continue to listen to younger generations as our country faces systemic racism.
We hope the video will inspire everyone to imagine what it must be like to be in the shoes of “the other” and to be humbled by what we don’t know. More information is available at www.gloucestermeetinghouse.org where you will find a link to the video, or simply go to YouTube and search for “Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation, MLK Day Celebration 2021.”
I saw that Pat D. and GMG Jim did a post with a short video showing turkeys in Magnolia. It reminded me that I had had a run in with those very same turkeys just a few days earlier. They were definitely stopping traffic and had no care in the world that cars were trying to get by.

I’d been wanting to get a shot of the decorated Schooner Adventure from the water side, so off we went to give it a try. This was taken from the North Shore Art Association lot. I am not settled on which view I prefer so I am sharing both. I love the skyline and the clouds.
