My View of Life on the Dock

I found my son enjoying a moment and a beautiful sunset. I was happy to watch him from afar for a bit before joing him on the rocks. Simple moments, simple pleasures.

We noticed a new sculpture along Rte 133 gracing the frontage at Vita Bella. I took a closer look when I noticed the scarf accessory and found delightful inscriptions worked into the metal along the steer’s side. Great work! It’s quite striking and another good reason to stop by Vita Bella on Eastern Ave in Essex.

Celebrate Black History Month by viewing a recently recorded conversation with journalist and author Lee Hawkins, whose memoir—I Am Nobody’s Slave: How Uncovering My Family’s History Set Me Free—examines his family’s post-enslavement legacy of trauma and resilience. Through genealogical research, Hawkins reveals how personal stories can foster understanding and healing for all Americans.
After the 60-minute screening, we’ll hold a 30-minute discussion to share key takeaways and reflections. Light refreshments will be provided. This program will be facilitated by Rosary Lalik, a member of the Gloucester Racial Justice Team, and Meg O’Neill, Community Librarian at the Sawyer Free Library.
Don’t miss this powerful opportunity to learn, reflect, and connect with others in our community. We hope to see you there! Registration is required at SawyerFreeLibrary.org. For questions, email: moneill@sawyerfreelibrary.org or 978-325-5500.
Midas Touch…

Here’s this week’s live music schedule. See you there!

I love going down to the Little River Stubby Knowles landing any time of the year. The water, the sky, the birds all present differently at various times of the year. In this case, it had been frigid though the sky was magnificently blue. It makes a great contrast. I also noticed for the first time a Little Library down there. And of course, I imagine many already know there’s kayak storage available there as well.

Mattress Sale…

It was a cold night but the atmosphere was warm and welcoming at Machaca on Rogers St. We ordered our dinners: chicken fajitas and Al Pastor while we munched the (seriously addictive) chips and salsa. I topped the dinner off with a Mexican Coffee (when in Rome…) which I enjoyed as an extra barrier against the cold outside. It’s a popular spot for families, couples and friends to gather as evidenced by the other customers. Food yummy with perfect portions; drinks cold, service friendly. Win Win.

Remembering Cameron Beavers
Friday, 2/21/25, marks 3 years since Cam passed away. We still miss him every day. He remains the best of us, remembered for all he brought to our lives. We were truly blessed!Cam loved Gloucester, & some of my favorite memories are the times we spent sitting near the Fisherman’s statue looking out to sea. That was his happy place. How lucky were we to have had him in our lives, & to have shared all the special times we did in Gloucester – from whale watches to Sugar Mags to Wingaersheek to the Blvd & more.

We love you, Cam!
