The Babson Boulders are always good targets for a walk in the woods.
If you click on the photo Rubber Duck also visits, “Prosperity Follows Service”, orange blaze trail, rock on little rocks, RD takes a dip in the creek, “BEON TIME”, “Study”, cellar hole 22 and large cracked alien egg rock at the top of Tarr Trail.
What kind of time is BEON time? Just kidding. Really needs a space though. Captain Samuel Riggs son Joseph lived at #22.

Rubber Duck Quick Tip: Orion Meteor Shower tonight
Rubber Duck: The Orionid Meteor Shower will be slamming into our path tonight. Best viewing is after midnight closer to dawn as the earth faces forward and gets a face full of ice chunks that Halley’s Comet left in our path. Weather maps say it will be clear.
Paul: But weather maps say it is clear over Cape Ann right now and all I see is big grey clouds at sunset.
Rubber Duck: They will clear out of here by midnight.
Paul: But that’s what you said about the Draconid meteor shower and that was a total bust.
Rubber Duck: Don’t blame me, you’re the one talking to a bath toy.

Cape Ann Studio Tour Day 2
Rubber Duck’s feet are worn to a frazzle but the duck crew nailed four more studios today. One more day on Monday to go. Too many studios to describe each one but if you click on the photo you go to a Google Plus album where Rubber Duck makes a comment on each photo.
If you will notice Rubber Duck is sporting a lovely necklace that was a present from Beth Williams. That was the first stop today so RD was styling all day long. What has Homie presented to Rubber Duck beside a bite in the duck butt? She is starting to rethink her trans-species relationships.
This was a shot of David Archibald’s pottery (More inside the album). David was so busy ringing up sales Rubber Duck didn’t get any one on one with him.

Cape Ann Artisans Studio Tour Part I
The Rubber Duck and Crew had a swimmingly good time today as you can see. RD is in a birdbath created by Judith Wright using glass as a mosaic.
The crew has to get to the wine tasting at Shalin Lui then to Fred Bodin’s opening for some more wine and cheese so I can’t describe the whole tour right now. Click the photo above and Les Bartlett’s amazing South Tower shot, Margaret Rack’s Walnut Ink, Mi Robert’s toes, and her “B” next to the duck, jars of glass for mosaics,, and Marty Morgan who was displaying a Good Morning Gloucester stickah in her kiln before we even got there.
Wine, cheese, chocolates, M&M’s and that dog on the rock is not stuffed. The dragon in Les’ space is stuffed as well as the church glass lamb.

Draconid Meteor Shower This Saturday night
Annisquam Arts and Crafts, The Artisans Studio Tour, then Rubber Duck and crew do the Rotary Club Wine tasting this Saturday at Shalin Lui. But that ends at 8PM. What’s a duck to do?
The Draconid Meteor Shower baby! Some astronomers are predicting a pretty decent meteor shower storm. Cape Ann weather for the weekend is predicted to be cool and crystal clear. Look to the north. You might also check them out Friday and Sunday.
OK, so there is a bright moon and the peak meteors are supposed to be in Europe but Rubber Duck will be out on the granite pile in Halibut Point looking towards Isle of Shoals. (Homie is just helping RD point in the right direction.)

25th Blackburn Challenge; Joey: Send me a photo!
The morning of the Blackburn Challenge and Joey was having a GMG meltdown. Or maybe he was was giving birth to puppies. But we were getting ready to go for a long paddle and Ed and I had not sent him any photos. I was trying to set up my iPhone to send a GPS signal so GMG could track us go around Cape Ann but Joey was sending me a text message every five minutes which would kill the GPS app.
I did get a photo but forgot that it was on HDR setting. I emailed it to Joey and he never received it since it was so large. Today, I finally figured out how to get it yanked from my outbox. Here we are discussing racing strategy. Once Ed realized I had Sue set up to deliver us cold beers as we rounded Andrews Point we were all set.
Only 290 days left to the 26th Blackburn Challenge.

Good Harbor Beach Going to the Dogs
September 15 has come and gone so it is OK to take your dogs for a run on Good Harbor Beach.
Good to see that everyone was picking up after their dogs. Rubber Duck hates to step in it. After the Mug Up on Sunday we took a stroll down the beach.
I had to try out my Five Finger Vibrams. Worked great. They didn’t fill with sand and I felt like I was walking barefoot.
One of the main reasons for getting the Vibrams was for fishing off the rocks. Epic fail. The type of Vibram that coats the bottom of these things makes walking on slick Rockport rocks like a cross between walking on ice skates, axle grease, and ball bearings. Not good. Back to the standard Timberline work boot.
But the ultimate reason for buying them, driving Joey up a wall, they work perfectly.

Rubber Duck getting All Dolled Up for the Bloody Mary Mug-Up Sunday, Oct 2
If you have never tried a Mr. Clean “Magic Eraser” just check out the new improved Rubber Duck. Who would guess she immigrated to our country in 1984 onboard a container ship from China? With a little duck bill colored Sharpie© to beef up her lipstick and just a touch of mascara she is all ready for the last Mug Up of the year. That’s this a week from this Sunday, September 25th October 2, 10AM down on Madfish Wharf. There will be the first annual Bloody Mary contest with famous politicians and celebrities. The Rubber Duck and I are chopping up the fresh horseradish root tonight this week.
I’m all set in case of spills on the deck since I’ll be sporting my new Vibram Barefoots. Rubber Duck is annoyed they do not come in webbed sizes. They’re comfy and invigorating to wear but basically the best reason for getting them is that Joey will make fun of them. Seriously? Applying mascara to Rubber Duck is mostly to make sure that Donna remains concerned about my sanity but after the incident last week at Cape Ann Brewery where she went missing for an hour she really did need a scrubbing behind the ears.
[edit] To clarify, It was the Rubber Duck that went missing and needed the scrubbing, not Donna.

One more from Katia
Just one more shot from the swell on friday from Katia.
It looks dangerous for the boat but not at all. They were tacking expertly back and forth off Andrews Point. Even within a hundred yards of the point they are in a soft offshore breeze and in 120 feet of water so they barely see the bump of the surge as it passes under the boat. Amazing how that long wave just jumps out of the water in the shallows. The zoom lens stacks up the distance a tad too.
The danger, if there is one, is all on the group of ducks that seem to be playing chicken with these waves. They sit bobbing just at the break and I watch for one of them to be the “dumb” duck and push it too far. It seems like they are just inches from having their duck brains battered. Are ducks just like humans? Their spectra of behavior could be the same. I keep watching for the thrill seeking dumb duck who pushes it too far. Just like the surfers who ride these waves. Still waiting.

Friday night sail
Smooth sailing off Andrews Point last night with the Hurricane Katia pushing in a nice swell from a distance. If anyone knows this green hull out of Rockport Harbor sail number 283 I have a ton of photos I could stick on a server. The moon, the boat, and the surge made some decent scenery. More later.

Rubber Duck Visits Thacher Island
Adam Bolonsky wanted to take Rubber Duck on a visit to Thacher Island. His friend Mike paddled out too. The three boats on the left were the transportation:
First up, a 102 foot climb to the top of the North Tower:

In that last shot you can see the clearing on the right which is used for camping. Five bucks a night is the best deal on Cape Ann if you like the sound of two hundred seagulls as an alarm clock. Camping is July 1 to September 10 . Call ahead.
One last shot. This is from the North Tower looking down at the north end of the island. After Adam caught a 30 inch bluefish which he then calmly placed between his legs in his kayak he then preceded to paddle through these rocks. Yes, in between the surge and those nasty rocks. Rubber Duck may be a dare devil but she insisted I take the longer route around.
