Confirmed: Outstanding Irish Coffee at Mile Marker

My aunt and I went to lunch at Mile Marker recently. While we enjoyed our fish sandwich and tacos, the hit of the outing was definitely the Irish Coffee ! Perfection.

St. Patrick’s Day 1956

1956 saw Gloucester covered in snow for St. Patrick’s Day. These are a sample of some of the items in the Gloucester Daily Times that day, with one notable exception to remind you to always be searching for that pot o’ gold!

Try Seaport Grille for Lunch

I had not been to Seaport Grille in a very long time when my cousin suggested we meet there for lunch. It was an immediate yes as I had been missing the atmosphere and menu there. Johanna was our server, informed and friendly. Our friend Bex was also having lunch there and it felt a little bit like old home days. I ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls and my cousin shared the fish tacos with her mom. Delish! And the drinks added to the fun. Thanks for the invite Cathy!

Triton Welcomes Spring

I saw a glimpse of a small yellow blooming bush next to the Triton statue at Stage Fort Park recently. My heart leapt in hopes that it was forsythia (completely losing track that it’s only March I guess) but it turned out to be something even more interesting. Witch hazel planted by the Generous Gardeners and helpfully labeled as such. Yes, that stuff you have in a bottle in your medicine cabinet is blooming at Stage Fort Park. Regardless, it’s still another one of those hopeful signs of the changing seasons. Thank you Generous Gardeners for the cheerful sight and the helpful labels.

Where’s My Best Friend?

I admit to being a bit startled when I saw this guy along the side of the road on the back shore yesterday. When I realized someone had lost their best friend, I knew I had to try and help a little bit if possible. This purple and white cow (?) has lost its owner and it’s sitting along the side of the road on the back shore near the hotels. It’s looking a little lonely so thanks to the kind soul who propped him up.

Design Of Mine Shines On Main St.

Design of Mine in Gloucester recently advertised some special discounts to celebrate reopening so, of course, I had to go down there ….. for the blog of course….. I had not been there in quite a while (2 years anyone?) and I love their stuff so off I went with wallet in hand. To my delight, GMG contributor Joanne was minding the store and we had a nice chat. I purchased a sweater at a very reasonable price made even better by the application of the mystery discount! Friendly service and interesting items make it a no brainer. Welcome back for the Spring Design of Mine!

Barns Along the Byway Rockport

This beautiful red barn may only be visible from the Byway if you stand on your tiptoes, but it looked so regal in the sun and snow that I just have to include it. I believe this area is Rockport and it’s a little bit off the Byway.

Winter At Cape Hedge Beach

The sun and shadows on the snow at Cape Hedge Beach make the place look like a large desert. It’s not overly inviting but it’s worth the trek for the view. Obviously I am not the only one attempting the climb and some before me sculpted the rocks and stones along the top edge.

Long Beach Waves and Beach Visitors

It was a sunny, windy day and the temperature was supposed to drop by about 30 degrees so I set off for Long Beach while the getting was good. I wasn’t alone…..seagulls and surfers were also enjoying the bounty of the sea and wind.

A Walk Around Greenwood Farm in Ipswich

On one of those nice days last week, I took a ride just to see what I might see and I came across the Trustees property Greenwood Farm in Ipswich. I decided to check it out and it’s a delightful hidden treasure for those wanted to take a manageable walk in nature.

There’s a nice walking trail though it was a little muddy and slippery that day, so wear appropriate footgear. The Paine House sits proudly by the trail, along with other surprises for your eyes and ears. It’s a large property and I only explored a very small corner of it. I would like to go back in the spring and perhaps the fall for the foliage. If you are looking for a quick escape into nature and serenity, I suggest you give Greenwood Farm a try.

Gloucester 400 Stories Project Introduces Gloucesterman John Handran

I am very pleased to share that the story of Gloucesterman and Medal of Honor recipient John Handran has been published by the Gloucester 400 Stories Project. I have told this story before but this version has some added details you will find interesting. Link to Gloucester 400 here. Scroll down to link to the full story. Thank you Laura M. Plum Cove Beach on a Winter’s Day

It was a gorgeous but chilly day recently when I stopped by Plum Cove Beach to take a little walk. It seems everyone heeded the sign to leave behind only footprints……even the geese!

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year for Eagles

It’s nesting time for eagles and I was able to find a nest in West Gloucester that was being tended to by a pair of eagles this week. One of them was going in and out bringing sticks and nesting materials; the other one was arranging and tossing extra material out! Looked exactly like a typical couple to me…….

I also recently saw two juvenile eagles soaring and diving over a nearby lake that brought great joy to my heart. For additional pictures and details, check out Pat D’s Photos and Adventures on Facebook.

New School Progress on Webster Street

The new East Gloucester/ Veterans Memorial school construction is proceeding as planned, according to a recent article in the Gloucester Daily Times (Feb 21 2022) quoting Superintendent Lummis: “We are on schedule. We are on budget.” So I went over to check it out. I think it’s beginning to look like a school!
