Good Morning Gloucester was invited to the Dec 20 2022 Rotary meeting and allowed us to video a greeting from President Dr. Mike Sarraf to our followers. It’s a genial group of ordinary people interested in serving their community. Here’s a link with some further information if you are interested in joining or assisting this organization. In the meantime: President Dr. Mike Sarraf:

Lunch At Stones Pub
It was a perfect day for a pub atmosphere and I craved a BLT from Stones on Main St, so off we went. On this rainy weekday, there were a few people with the same idea. We sat in the side room which is done up very nicely with high tops as well as some armchair seating. Ali was our server and she was attentive and efficient. I had the BLT I’d been craving and Jim ordered is “usual” peanut butter burger. It was a relaxed, festive lunch and we were fueled up to go on with our day.

When I was teaching, I worked closely with the yearbook advisor and I am here to tell you it’s a huge undertaking each and every year. The fundraising is always the hardest part, so I plan to go to Bravo tonight for our dinner. Great food AND I get to support the yearbook. Win Win. Sharing their Facebook post. Cemetery Stroll Nourse Family Cemetery Ipswich
As many times as I have driven by this cemetery on High Street in Ipswich, I still cannot stop admiring the handiwork of those maintaining it. This tiny private cemetery (about 15 graves according to Historic Ipswich), is always well groomed and preserved in an obviously loving manner. And that’s what drew my attention. It’s like an old friend waving from roadside as we drive by. It’s commonly called the Nourse Family Cemetery and honors its members year round and each season with appropriate graveside decorations. Some additional information can also be found at Find A Grave. Next time you drive by, give your regards to the family and its caretakers.

Farm Bar and Grille For Comfort Food
I was craving some comfort food for lunch recently as we were driving around so we stopped at the Farm Bar and Grille on Western Ave in Essex to see what was going on there. We were not disappointed to find friends at the bar, satisfying meals and creative drinks. I had not intended to have a cocktail but when at the Farm…… The Snow Ball Mimosa hit the spot! Jim had the pastrami sandwich and I had a fish sandwich. It was Taco Tuesday, but we went with comfort. The service was friendly and the food delicious. Even though we had not been there in a while, we felt like old friends in a familiar setting.

Last Minute Cape Ann Makers Market Saturday Dec 17
Pat D’s Photos will be one of the vendors at the West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church this Saturday Dec 17 from 11 -3 and we hope to see you there. The lovely church ladies will be offering “light fare” and what is better than church lady food??? Here are some of the items we will be offering and this is our last show before the holidays, although free delivery in Cape Ann is available most anytime. Give us a follow also at Pat D’s Photos on Facebook.

Gloucester’s Beautiful Holiday Trees
I just LOVE our holiday trees and I thought you might like to see them too especially if you’re from away. They deserved a visit from a special visitor.

Holiday Shopping For Pat D At Virgilios
Sometimes you need to do your own self a favor during the holidays so we stopped at Virgilios on Main St. for lunch and treats. Though I was tempted by the hot dish offerings of the day, since it was Monday I asked for a meatball sub. Jim got the St. Joes. We added some bread and cookies and had ourselves a feast. I wish I could share the smells with you! The festive music adds quite a lot. See you down there sometime soon!

Crystal Ball at Half Moon Beach
I took CB (crystal ball) to Half Moon Beach recently and she looked so pretty I just had to show her off at wStage Fort Park and the beach. If you’re missing summer here in Gloucester, maybe this will help.

The maritime Gloucester Is Lit!
I have always enjoyed strolls along Harbor Loop and Maritime Glouceser. At this time of year, it’s pretty lit!

Holiday Shopping with Pat D at Maritime Gloucester
Did you know that Maritime Gloucester on the Harbor Loop has the cutest little shop? It’s full of maritime related goodies and local artisan creations. Even Keith the Wreath likes to shop there! They are open Thursday-Monday 10-4 at this time of the year. It’s also just fun to walk around inside and outside. You should stop down and check it out. SSSSHHH I purchased two surprise gifts there!

Holiday Shopping With Pat D at Marty Morgan Pottery
We took a ride up Washington St and stopped by Marty Morgan Pottery a few days ago to check it out. It’s a re-purposed garage sitting at the edge of the Annisquam with a lovely, friendly and talented proprietor. You can see from these pictures that the light is just about perfect in this studio. The pottery items available just glow in the light! It’s a very relaxing atmosphere and you are surrounded with beautiful pottery from which to choose. You might find just the right item for someone special. Or just stop by. It’s very welcoming.

See You At The Elks On Sunday!
Pat D’s Photos will be at the Elks Holiday Fair this Sunday Dec 11 from 10-4 and I hope to see you there. We will be offering holiday cards, glass prints, glass ornaments, playing cards, puzzles, prints and more! It’s such a fun event with some of our best local vendors. Here are some examples. I’ll just note that the 3″ glass ornaments sell very quickly so stop by early or check out Pat D’s Photos and Adventures Facebook page for further details. Support the Elks. Support local. Stop by and mention Good Morning Gloucester for a free magnet.

Real Deal Seals
You can waste an astonishing amount of time gazing at these guys as they loll about at Brace Cove. There were 4-5 seals out on the rocks at low tide on this beautiful day.

Holiday Shopping With Pat D At Animal Krackers
Like many of you, we have a dog in our lives that we like to spoil now and again. “We” might be an exaggeration as I don’t think GMG Jim is as on board with the spoiling as I am….so I went to Animal Krackers on Main St by myself recently with spoiling a dog in mind. It’s jam filled with food, treats, toys and other pet related goods. You even get to pet Walter, the giant (but friendly) store cat. Stop down for a little treat for your 4 legged friends.

Safe Return
Nearly dusk on a grey day, some of our fishing vessels return home. Welcome home Jean Elizabeth, Griffin, Cabaret V and Angela & Rose!

Winterlights Winter Wonderland
I work hard to restrain myself from putting out the holiday lights and decorations until it’s December. It’s a hold-over from those days when the kids were young and overly anxious about the holidays approaching. Anyhow, December 1 rolled around and I felt free to go wild. The first thing I did (after shopping Ladies Day) was to go to the Stevens Coolidge House Winterlights event put on by the Trustees. What a joyful walk we took around the grounds admiring the thousands of lights and the piped in holiday music. GMG Jim thinks it’s the best light display he’s ever been to. I LOVE lights…if it says “lights”, I am checking it out.
As mentioned, it’s an event from the Trustees and 3 properties participate. We went to North Andover for our 4:30 timed tickets. The ride at that time of day is not fun but we enjoyed the event thoroughly. You need to purchase tickets ahead and they are timed (although they don’t seem too strict about the timing of your visit as long as you have the tickets). Discounts for Trustee members. As per usual, I suggest going earlier than later. It was starting to get congested in the lots and on the pathways by the time we departed. The pathways are very well defined and only partially lit. The ground is even but it is a little uneven in some places so be aware if you have mobility issues though we did see wheelchairs and strollers managing easily. Get your tickets early if you plan to go. This event sells out. Great idea for company and children!

Duck Duck Heron
A beautiful blue heron was peacefully hunting at Niles Pond recently along with a number of ducks. Apparently the ducks decided they needed to establish themselves with the heron and dive bombed him. It was more of a drive by than an attack, and both species continued along with their business. Kind of reminded me of some of those silly Tik Tok street scenes you see.
