Gloucester Lookout

I am very lucky that my in-laws are truly gifted as well as a gift to me. Jim’s sister and her husband came for a visit last fall.  They are each artists in their own right and were quite taken with the beauty of Gloucester and Cape Ann. Lucky for me!

Linda Hartman recently shared her first mixed media work of 2019 and Gloucester comes shining through!

Gloucester Lookout

And here’s Gloucester Lookout next to the photo that inspired it:

Gloucester Lookout Inspiration

I love it! I’d also like to add a Happy Birthday shoutout to both Linda and Scott who are both celebrating a landmark birthday today! Looking forward to more Gloucester inspired artwork at their studio Hartman Studio 44

Guess Who Came To Dinner

We watched this little story develop on the shoreline recently. It’s a story as old as time, I suppose. Scavenging seagull interrupted by persistent shore bird. I realize we shouldn’t attribute human traits to animals but that’s one way to make sense of observations. This appeared to show an annoyingly persistent little bird’s efforts chasing away the big bad seagull. Fun to watch regardless.

Mystery Vessel

We saw an interesting ship on the horizon and chased it down to get a decent view:

I couldn’t figure out what it was so I asked Chris at Cape Ann Weather for his thoughts. He noticed it was being towed and suggested it might be a dredging or utility barge probably heading to Boston. I was disappointed but thankful for the information. Thanks Chris!

All was not lost however as we find a pretty new spot (new to us at least). In this picture, you can see this vessel way out on the horizon. The view was worth chasing the vessel down!

Gloucester Elks Childrens Snowball Party a Big Success

There was a large turnout at the Elks Childrens Snowball party Sunday. A particular favorite was the Patriots Snowman brought in by the DJ….the children weren’t the only ones loving the Patriots Snowman. The Elks do a great job with their events and the children seemed to have a great time.

Adventureman Getting Closer to Gloucester Every Day

Jamie McDonald, known as Adventureman, is running a marathon distance each day on his quest to run across American raising money to benefit children in need of medical treatment. He plans to end his journey right here in Gloucester!

This is a recent video diary entry:

As we report on the podcast, he is currently in North Carolina. You can follow him by searching Adventureman on Facebook.

Busy Singing Beach on Saturday Morning

It was a busy morning on Singing Beach last Saturday! Lots of dogs, children and walkers.

Not sure what is going on with this person in the background here. I’d like to say I noticed this and that was the reason for the photo, but instead my eye was drawn to these  curious dogs.

Sebastian’s is Another Gloucester Favorite

It’s a very busy place on a recent Friday. Guess we aren’t the only ones thinking Friday night fun = Sebastian’s and a movie!

Rotary Phone Experiment

These teens had 4 minutes to dial a particular number on a rotary phone. If you are of a certain age, you cannot help but smirk a little as you watch them figuring it out. I admit to laughing out loud. It’s interesting though to think about what this says about how teens problem-solve today.

Bird Friends at Parker River Refuge

We recently took a ride to Parker River Wildlife Refuge, expecting to see some effects of the government shutdown. However, it was business as usual. The window at the gate was manned and I saw no evidence of neglect or damage as has happened in some other federal locations.

We did see this hawk looking at us a little bit like “You lookin’ at me?” I see only one leg here which I found interesting.

There are so many geese! These seemed to be marching across the hilltop.

The presence of birders alerted me to these guys. They might be Dunlins (?). I’d be happy for someone to verify or correct this. It was lots of fun to watch them scurry and scrounge.

Lonely Lovely Boulevard

I did not think it was possible to feel alone on the boulevard but it was pretty quiet yesterday morning. Great job DOW with the clean up barely 12 hours after storm ended.

Cape Ann Youth Hockey Mites Scrimmage

The CAYH Mites held a scrimmage prior to the Gloucester vs Lynn game. Congrats to the Fishermen on the 6-5 win! It’s fun to watch the future of ice hockey in Gloucester develop. It looks promising!
