Jim Douglass recently sent me this photo. While I don’t recognize too many faces (please write in if you do!) I immediately got a good laugh at the absence of face shields, masks, or cages…..and the seemingly black eye/broken nose on the player in the front row second from the left. Old school hockey for sure. Their chin straps also look like our modern days masks.

I recently saw this pie chart (lol) photo……of people’s favorite pies according to some totally random study out west somewhere. So, let’s do our own GMG version. Take the poll below and tell us your favorite pie to enjoy on Thanksgiving.
Does anyone have one of these? I wonder if they’re cute for a few small items….or completely useless? This may be the toughest year yet to think of things that my two boys (now 14 and 12) need/want for the holidays. I’m all about experiences and tickets and quick trips, but I also want some boxes under the tree. This is, in fact, the first Christmas in my house where there will be no Santa (sigh…yay…sigh…not sure how I really feel about that….but more on that in another post) so gift giving will look very different. Both boys have, at one point or another, said that having a small refrigerator in their rooms would be “cool”, but I’m not about to do that. I’m definitely not in the market for keeping them holed up in their boy caves unnecessarily with a stocked fridge (also, look for a post on the logic of “Fridge” vs. “Refrigerator) but, these little ones hold a few waters, seltzers, sodas and some tiny snacks. Maybe just cute enough for a little gift? Anyone?
College hockey. You’ve heard me say how amazing minor league baseball games and parks are for families and now I’m going to say the same thing about college hockey. While, sure, we all love to go to the Red Sox and the Bruins….or the Celtics (or any other professional level team)…… minor leagues and college are where it’s at if you want your child to experience the game and the enthusiasm a bit more personally. Thanks to one of his coaches and a wonderful connection with Billy Riley, Jr (UMass Lowell Legend with a 20+ year coaching career and some Championship seasons on his resume) Finn and a few teammates had the amazing opportunity to skate with the team, stand on the blue line during the National Anthem, sit on the bench, and have a meet-and-great post game with the entire team at the UMass Lowell vs. Boston College game at the Tsongas Center. My boys have also had the opportunity to play games at the TD Garden before and during Bruins games, but they player interaction couldn’t compare. It was so special for these kids to have the chance to chat with college level players, get their autographs, meet their parents, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder (well, ok….shoulder to waist maybe) on the line with them. It is something that they definitely will remember for years to come and I’m super thankful that my PeeWee had the chance to hang with some really phenomenal skaters who are in the midst of making their dreams come true. Good stuff.

I always laugh when I see these around. This one is in Gloucester. It obviously doesn’t work. I wonder how many are actually on Cape Ann….if one were to look.

Walmart has started to use driverless delivery trucks. My mom lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas for a few years. It was quite beautiful…and it was also right next door to Bentonville….home to Walmart Corporate Headquarters. Yesterday Arkansas Online announced that a driverless truck delivery company that Walmart Inc. works with in Bentonville has been operating vehicles without a driver behind the wheel since August. Yikes.
The trucks run on a single delivery route several times daily on public roads between a Neighborhood Market and a Walmart “dark store,” or store that is now being used solely as a fulfillment center, the companies said in a joint news release.
Walmart did not immediately respond to questions including how many trucks it’s using or whether it owns a stake in the company as it does with another driverless vehicle firm.
The Arkansas Highway Commission gave approval for the company, Gatik, and Walmart, in December to use the box trucks without a safety driver after they had successfully operated in the city for 18 months.
The companies said that the commission’s approval makes Gatik the first autonomous trucking company allowed to remove the safety driver from a commercial delivery middle-mile route “anywhere in the world.”
Middle mile refers to the part of the supply chain in which items are transported between warehouses or from warehouses to stores. In comparison, last-mile deliveries are made from stores or fulfillment centers directly to customers’ homes.
Autonomous delivery helps Walmart fill online orders faster, the companies said.

The new and improved indoor bar and dining area at the Gloucester House is open for business. We stopped by quickly on Friday night. I had one Shipyard Pumpkin beer and tried the brussels sprouts wrapped in bacon. Really good…especially the sriracha glaze.

Foul weathered fiend. Not so much actually, but I was going for alliteration. He’s far too cute to actually be called a “fiend.” I’ve driven by this skeleton several times and he has been ready for some lobstering even before this week’s nasty weather rolled in.

In the category of Things-You-Might-Not-Know-But-Should….. The Gloucester Police Department recently had 9 officers complete the 26.2 Mile Tough Ruck around Gloucester! The Tough Ruck is sponsored by the BAA (Boston Athletic Association) and on October 2nd all 9 officers were awarded 125th Boston Marathon Medals!
In doing so, they raised $5,580! Congratulations to them all! Yet another way these guys make Gloucester proud on a daily basis! The money raised goes to support the families of fallen service members (read more below).
The officers who completed the Tough Ruck were Joe Catarino, David Quinn, Brian Aiello, Michal Cimoszko, Anthony Trupiano, Dylan Morrissey, Josiah Aberle, Brendan Chipperini, and Rob Morrissey.
Tough Ruck Nation is group of military, first responders and civilians whose sole purpose is to Ruck in honor and in memory of our Fallen Service Members, Police, Firefighters and EMTs, while raising funds to support our warriors and families of the Fallen. We will march with our Rucks and carry the names of our Fallen comrades with us.
On April 15, 2013, the Tough Ruck members were at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and joined the first responders to help those that were injured by the horrific blasts. They truly exemplify the best of what our Nation is. Today the Tough Ruck’s signature event Tough Ruck 26.2 Boston, held in partnership with the Boston Athletic Association/Boston Marathon happens the weekend before Marathon Monday in Concord, Massachusetts. Each year Tough Ruck 26.2 Boston finishers are awarded the first of the official Boston Marathon Medals and receive recognition from the Boston Athletic Association. Military Friends Foundation (37-1462599) is the official charity of Tough Ruck Nation.

Things have become pretty quiet in Rocky Neck during the evenings, but while taking a walk the other night I passed lots of dog walkers and plenty of pretty views.

The 125th Boston Marathon is in the books and we really wanted to take a moment to congratulate some Gloucester residents who ran this year. Congratulations to Jamie Marshall and Nadina and Justine Wilk! No doubt there are more runners in our community to congratulate, so please share with us if you or a loved one ran this year. Please read more to learn about Jamie Marshall and Team Speed of Light and the Light Foundation and Nadina and Justine Wilk who ran for Team End ALZ and the MA/NH Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Nadina and Justine Wilk (a dynamic duo and Mother/Daughter team) ran this year on the official course as well as last year on a self designed course around Gloucester….both times to raise a significant amount of money for Team End ALZ and for the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter. With the words “Running for Nonie” helping them each step of the way, Nadina and Justine ran in the beautiful memory of Nadina’s mother and Justine’s Nonie who suffered from the horrible disease. You can still support them by following this link to their official GivenGain page HERE.
We’re baaaack!!! Never did I think these words would be spoken, but here we are!! This past year has been the most challenging for every single one of us. Although we were not able to run Boston in 2020, we did, however, raise $40K to help the fight to end Alzheimers!! We couldn’t have done this without the enormous support from all of you. This cause is extremely near and dear to our hearts as we watched my loving Mom, and Justine’s Nonie, suffer with this horrible disease. We just know that together we can help to find a cure and give our children a world without Alzheimers. We have proudly joined Team End ALZ once again and will run Boston on October 11, 2021. Please help us to reach our goal – your support means more than you will ever know. LETS DO THIS!!!!!!!! Much love, Nadina & Justine XO
Jamie Marshall also ran this year as part of Team Speed of Light for the Matt Light Foundation. The Light Foundation’s charity athletes run the famed Boston Marathon to bring awareness to the work of the Light Foundation. To date, they have raised more than $400,000 for our youth leadership programs. Jamie ran alongside Danica Patrick….who is known for speed on the race track and now also along the marathon route. You can still support Jamie and the Light Foundation on Jamie’s official GivenGain page HERE
Hey 26.2 – I’m coming for you in October! That’s right, I’m taking part in the 125th Boston Marathon to raise money for the Light Foundation. As many of you know, I serve as an active Board member for the Light Foundation, which was founded by former NFL player Matt Light. The funds raised will help enhance the life changing programing that continues to inspire and transform the future of so many youth year after year.
The Boston Marathon is a race like no other! Beyond its iconic, yet challenging reputation – it brings everyday athletes (like me!), many of whom are connected to extraordinary causes, to the same road as elite, world-class athletes. Together, inspired by strength and courage we run as ONE on the same journey thru the greatest towns on earth!
Please support my personal fundraising project and help me push forward on the road ahead to the finish line!
Let’s goooooo Team Speed of Light! Sazeets! Jamie
