Some old friends came into town yesterday. We walked Dog Town for a while and took a ride out to the Cove. What a gorgeous day! Spring is definitely on its way!

Last Night’s Docksider Fundraiser at Perriwinkle’s
The money has been raised for the Hawaii trip in April. The Docksider kids worked hard to get the funds together, and last night’s fundraiser at Perriwinkle’s in Essex gave the kids’ spending money. Many local businesses donated the food that the kids served.
What a hard-working group of great young people! And a community pulls together once again! Have a great trip!

‘Windward Leeward’ exhibit blows into Cape Ann Museum
By Gloucester Daily Times Staff
On Saturday, March 6, Cape Ann Museum sails back from its winter hiatus with a reception to mark the opening of “Windward Leeward,” a stunning exhibition of ‘Dory Era’ paintings by one of New England’s most highly regarded contemporary maritime artists, Peter Vincent. His still, starkly composed images of Gloucester’s long-gone seafaring world are the artist’s reverent and powerfully moving tribute to his subject matter, and have won him numerous awards, including Mystic Seaport Museum’s first annual Thomas Hoyne Award. His “Men who go down to the sea” do not just inhabit, but haunt his works, as they continue to haunt their native harbor. The painting’s flat, muted tones suggest the calm before the storm; the perilous power of the sea to be at once livelihood and graveyard.

Antique Desk?
I bought this desk last weekend. I don’t have much information on it, but here are several photos that might give someone enough to identify the style, period, wood, etc. I talked to David Cox and Dick Davis at Dave’s antique shop downtown and got some possible info.
Click on any photo and if you click on “all sizes”, you’ll get a much closer view.
– The hardware is NOT brass.
– The wood is probably mahogany.
– It may have been built in the early 1900’s.
– It looks like it is Governor Winthrop style.
– It is signed on a piece of paper on the back.
I’d love to find out more about this and how to proceed with the refinishing. Most of it is down to the bare wood, but there has been some repair done with filler near the top and the cubbies inside need to be sanded. I’d like to do this myself, but I’m not sure how. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance! —–Sharon
Thank you to the GMG Family!
This past year and a half has been amazing. When Joey invited me to come aboard as a GMG contributor, I never realized how much my life would change. Not only has it been a great place to show my photography, I get to play. The electronic yodeling pickle, the puffy shirt, all of that!
What a great place to share the good times and the bad! Our GMG family congratulates us as well as supports us when the going gets tough.
I just want to thank Joey, Paul, Frank, Mike, Laurie, Manny, and everyone who makes being on this blog an incredible place to hang out! Big hugs for all!

Lovin’ my D90!
Even though this week has been one of the busiest ever, I got a chance to try out my new Nikon D90’s capabilities in low light last night at Lat 43. Usually the lighting makes it so I have to post-process in Photo Shop to pull out the image. Last night I was able to set ISO at 3200 and shoot at 1/60th at F2.8. It’s grainy but not bad. I’ve got a lot to learn, but that’s half the fun!
BTW…Mike O’Connell plays the best Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, and Tom Petty! Catch the band around town!
