I pray you are blessed, built up in your faith and Christian walk, and become an interactive participant in God's Morning. We are here as Christ's body, supporting and building each other up in all righteousness, in His name, awaiting His soon return. Maranatha!
FOB Deb Schradieck was returning from a trip to FL and saw this car parked in the Logan Express parking lot. She said it immediately made her think of GMG. Didn’t I hear that Paul was away? Does anyone think this might be his car? If it is, I think he’s asking for a smash and grab with all those ducks lined up on the dashboard like that. If it isn’t, I think Paul and whoever does own this car need to meet.

Anyone have any idea what leaping little creature made these tracks on the beach?
Bounding is done by animals with relatively long bodies. The animal springs forward like a slinky-toy releasing itself, and all four feet come down in the same general area, and then they repeat the operation, leaving clustered prints in widely separated groups, as shown above. There are plenty of bounding animals — weasels, minks, otters, and many more. However, in our backyards most of us will only see the tracks of two kinds of bounders — chipmunks and squirrels. And they don’t always bound.
Prints of chipmunks and squirrels often show claw marks, but sometimes the claws don’t show at all. (from backyardnature.com)

Lifelong Rockport resident and FOB, Christina Corliss and hubby, Jay Rourke are heading for warmer climes and moving to Englewood, FL. The couple ran the Halyard Guest House in Rockport for twelve years. They obviously can’t leave Cape Ann for good, and plan to return for summer visits, and of course keep up with things here on Good Morning Gloucester.

You never know who you’ll run into on Rocky Neck. Today Gabby and gang came by with their new 3 month old pet pig, named Paisley – isn’t that just the most perfect name for a pig! Paisley had painted red toenails, but was wearing no lipstick. Bogie the Westie enjoyed meeting his new neighbor too.
I’ll miss Rocky Neck this winter. I’m pretty sure I won’t meet any pigs named Paisley in Annisquam.

These are some photos from last year’s show. If you enjoy quality arts and crafts shows (no mass produced stuff here), don’t miss the Annisquam Arts & Crafts Show. It has been going on for 27 years, and is chock full of lovely, high quality hand crafted items. Annisquam is beautiful and inviting in the Fall and this is a great opportunity to visit. This is Dan and Robin Smith from Missouri. They stopped into the gallery and we got talking. In 1975 when Dan was 20 years old, he and his buddy, Rick Good, waited tables at the Rocky Neck Steak and Lobster House. It was owned by Mr. Gledhill and was located where the Madfish Grille is now. Dan says he still has his Rocky Neck Steak and Lobster House T-shirt! They stayed at the old Rockaway Hotel when they first arrived until they got situated, and he said most everyone who worked at the restaurant stayed at The Accommodations. Dan became a sailor due to his experience of a summer in Gloucester in 1975, and he still returns here regularly. Now he’ll hopefully become a subscriber to Good Morning Gloucester too.
It was a great final Mug Up on Rocky Neck Sunday. Although we didn’t do food competitions this year like last, only the blueberry bake one, I have to say that Evelyn Howe won the best contribution to a Mug Up this season with her pumpkin cheesecake with praline topping – which topped Ann Kennedy’s candied bacon with chocolate sauce, which came in really close to Gigi Mederos’ pickled zucchini which doesn’t sound like much, but was tastebud tantalizing. Many people brought wonderful additions to the Mug Up fare this season, but these three homemade contributions were spectacular. Thanks Evelyn, Ann and Gigi.
It was nice to have Melissa and Bill at Mug Up as well as regulars Donna and Rick Ardizzoni, Sue Lovett and Don Boye from Island Arts & Hobby (which is a great art supply store for those of you artists out there who haven’t checked it out yet – no need to go to Beverly unless you just feel like driving). Also lovely Brenda Malloy, Caroline Kwas, Sinikka Nogelo, and the ever handsome Ed Collard and Marty Luster were there. The highlight of Mug Up was getting to see Paul Morrison dance gangnam style!
Until next season!

For 27 years, the quiet village of Annisquam has come alive each Columbus Day weekend when it presents the Annisquam Arts & Crafts Show. This weekend, celebrate the spirit of Christopher Columbus by exploring, and an ideal starting place is the Village Hall in Annisquam at 34 Leonard Street Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Forty local North Shore and New England artists and artisans will be displaying and selling their handcrafted items which include pottery, jewelry, fabric arts, children’s toys, jams, photographs and paintings.
A few of the local artists displaying their special visions are Manchester watercolorist, Marion Hall, 13-year old Teddie Moskall from Gloucester with his beautiful photography cards, Kenn Tarr “Gramps in the Attic” with his always popular crafted wooden toys, and Annisquam/Rocky Neck artist, E.J. Lefavour with her aerial Cape Ann photography and just published Tales of Bong Tree Island book.
This much anticipated annual event brings you a chance to discover new worlds of art, a new way to interpret the world around you, a sense of adventure, and a head start on local holiday shopping! A portion of the proceeds from all sales will go to the Annisquam Village Church, Cape Ann’s historic Third Parish, established in 1728. There is no entrance fee and the facility is wheelchair accessible.
It is a great time of year to visit the lovely village of Annisquam, and the Annisquam Arts & Crafts Show is a great reason to visit. The Annisquam Exchange at 32 Leonard Street will also be open on Saturday, so you can stop by there too if you haven’t been recently.

That this is the 8th year of the Goetemann Residency Program? The quality of the applications submitted continues to rise and there has been an increase in our geographical range. Applicants come not only from the Boston area, state of MA and New England, but now there are many more national and international candidates.
Painter Viktor Valasek is a native of Czechoslovakia and has a Master’s Degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He studied at Cooper Union in NYC in 2009 and his work from that time was included in an Exchange Students Exhibition. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions including at Trafo Gallery and AVU gallery both in Prague. He is currently a resident artist at Meetfactory, a center of contemporary art in Prague.
Do take the opportunity to visit the Goetemann Residency this month and meet the current resident artist, Victor Valasek from Prague, Czech Republic. Victor is charming, worldly and inspired, and his work will definitely make you stop and think. The series he is working on during his month-long stay on Rocky Neck is of paintings over other works, thereby recycling something no longer wanted. A number of the canvases were donated by artists on Rocky Neck of paintings that we no longer wanted and were willing to “throw away”. Instead they have become something new and wonderfully incorporated into a Victor Valasek painting. Having had the opportunity to paddleboard one night with Victor and get to know him a little, and then to visit him at the residency, I can certainly say that he is one young man you do not want to miss the opportunity of meeting, and of seeing his work. He is at the Residency located at Kismet Wharf, 51A Rocky Neck Ave. most afternoons. His studio talk will be on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:00 pm. You can see more of his work on his website at www.viktorvalasek.com.

If you find yourself in need of a good used vehicle, call or stop in and see Peter Anderson at Meineke, 168 Eastern Ave., Gloucester. My old Annie girl reached the point this summer where taking her to my mechanic to repair the things that had started going would have cost more than I though it was worth for a 1997 van, although she still had alot of life left in her. When the battery and windshield wiper motor went so I could no longer drive her or pass inspection, and I didn’t want to keep borrowing Brenda Malloy’s cool art car, I knew it was time. Peter had a nice 2000 Plymouth Voyager in my price range, so I now have wheels and am mobile again, thanks to Smokin’ Jim Yancy who brought me to see Peter and Elynn Kroger who brought me over to pick her up. It is so great living in a community where you can get the things you need and have good people all around you to offer help when you need it. There really is no place on earth like Gloucester.
On another happy note, Eric and Sheila from Rockport ended up buying my old Annie van and Eric is going to make the repairs and fix her up for Sheila to drive. I had put her on Craig’s List, and Sheila who is a FOB saw the Good Morning Gloucester sticker on her bumper and told Eric to go check her out. I look forward to seeing her moving on the roads of Cape Ann again.
