Seaside Garden Club’s First Meeting

Dot Sieradzki's avatarCape Ann Community

Our new season will kick off on September 11 with “Confessions of a Seed Snatcher” presented by Marie Patrice Masse. Marie, an enthusiastic gardener and nature lover, has collected seeds for many years and more often than not can be found tending her 4500 square foot organic flower and vegetable garden at the Stow Community Garden. Her presentation will include a slideshow and lecture. It is a humorous and insightful journey of discovery into the world of seed saving from seed biology and politics, to seed quirkiness and adaptability. Attendees will learn how to save seeds from their gardens and enjoy entertaining stories of finding seeds in unusual places. Following the slideshow/lecture there will be an optional hands – on seed gathering from a large collection of flower heads, seed stalks, and pods. Beautiful photographs and entertaining story-telling promise to make this presentation a delight. Guests are welcome, $5 fee.

Dr Edgerton’s Retiring!! (After 44 years)

Forty-four years ago, fresh from his mid-West residency program, Dr. Bill Edgerton arrived in Gloucester with his expectant wife, Patty Joy,  and their three small sons to begin his practice of podiatry.  Hanging his sign on Middle street at Dr. Mo Pett’s old office, his most rewarding career was launched.  “Referrals” in those days were unheard of, so daily, Dr. Edgerton would walk to lunch at Harry’s Delicatessen or grab a St.Joseph’s sandwich at Virgilio’s, and introduce himself.
Soon the intown location was outgrown. Comfortable Foot Care moved to the Cape Ann Medical Center and  satellite offices were  opened in Danvers, Ipswich and Georgetown.  Dr.Edgerton’s loyal and dedicated staff  later followed him to the  present location at Mill Pond to be closer to the hospital. His 27  years spent as part of the orthopedic team at AGH and Beverly Hospital have earned him the respect and warm comraderie of his medical colleagues.
Currently, the only full-time podiatrist serving Cape Ann, Dr. Edgerton holds dear the trust his patients have placed in him–and most assuredly will miss the wonderful life stories they have shared with him throughout his time of curing and caring.  However, the father of eight (and, “Da”, to his sixteen grandchildren) is very much looking forward to spending more time with his family, and announces his retirement as of September 26, 2018.
His ever-gentlemany professionalism will certainly be missed, yet fondly remembered, as he looks ahead in hope to all that will be.

Paul Ciaramitaro Pre-Demo Studio Showroom Pop Up Show September 3 – 7 Demonstration September 7 (2pm) How to make something out of nothing! Paul Ciaramitaro, a lifelong resident of Cape Ann, began his love of art as a child. Over the years, he has been influenced by the Renaissance artists as well as Aldro Hibbard, Emile Gruppe, and especially Charles Movalli. In the 1970’s, Paul became a student of Movalli’s and was deeply inspired by him. He told Paul “If you learn something from every painting you do, you will become an artist”. In between his grueling hours as a commercial fisherman and dockworker, Paul sketched and painted in his spare time and worked hard to glean all that he could from his mentors. His commitment and talent led him to become a well-established and accomplished Cape Ann artist. His paintings have won many awards and his work can be found in both private and corporate collections, as well as in prestigious galleries and museums such as the Cape Ann Museum. Over the past several decades, Paul has taught numerous classes and workshops which have been widely attended, and he has served as a juror for many exhibition. He is a juried artist member of both the North Shore Arts Association and The Rockport Art Association & Museum. When asked about being an artist Paul says, “I’m serious about it. I’m passionate about it and I love it!” Demonstration September 7 (2pm) Space is limited so we do suggest that you sign up early… 11 Pirates Lane • Gloucester MA 01930 • 978.283.1857 • www.nsarts.org
