Grateful Friends, a program run by volunteers which provides support and unexpected joy to adults living with cancer or going through cancer treatment will hold their Second Annual Spirits and Spirits Costume Ball on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 6-10 pm at the Rockport Golf Club, 36 County Way, Rockport.
Last year’s Spirits & Spirits Costume Ball was a huge success! The organizers ask that you dress up, and have a scary good time!
Food is being catered by Gourmet Delights and a cash bar will be offered. The evening will include live and silent auctions, dancing, and a photo booth by Entertainment by Scott Sica. Auction items will include a $500 Lottery ticket tree, a Gourmet Delights catered cocktail party for 24 guests, autographed New England Patriots memorabilia, two ski passes to Attitash Mountain with accommodations, a two-night couples getaway at Splash Landing on Coffins Beach, Gloucester, and the ability to name a new sandwich for Virgilio’s menu.

Celebrating the season of dark and windy nights, hobgoblins, and scary creatures, the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents two landmark silent movies featuring the Frankenstein monster and accompanied by world-renowned sonic artist and organist Peter Krasinski.

The first movie is a short 1910 Thomas Edison photo-play, the first motion picture version of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. This silent movie features sophisticated special effects for its time. Unsuspecting audiences were dazzled when it was released. Now nearly 110 years old, this rarely-seen film continues to amaze audiences with its powerful visuals.

John Simon took over seven years to research the untold history of Jews in Finland. Newly published in English, “Strangers in a Stranger Land” is a creative combination of history and fiction.
The event is free and open to the public.
Simon will share a brief talk and readings of portions of his book, as well as stand by for questions. His presentation is sponsored by the Temple, the Cape Ann Finns, St. Paul Lutheran Church, and Gloucester Office of Veterans Services.

HAWC (Healing Abuse, Working for Change) and Treetop Yoga are excited to announce the next series of Yoga for Trauma workshops for survivors of abuse. Each class has a different theme, combining a gentle yoga practice with meditation, breathing exercises, and restorative poses designed to release tension, stress and anxiety from the mind and body.
Yoga for Trauma classes are intended for those who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual assault at any point in their lives and are suitable for teens and adults of all genders with no prior yoga experience. There are no group discussions or disclosure during class; HAWC staff will be available during and after for anyone wanting to connect about support or resources.
