Community Open House: Friday, Sept. 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

After 1 ½ years of being closed due to the pandemic, a completely remodeled and repainted Library & Archives is reopening at the Cape Ann Museum at 27 Pleasant Street in Gloucester next week. “We are thrilled to welcome the public the new and improved Library & Archives,” said Oliver Barker, the Cape Ann Museum’s Director. “The Museum has been working hard, with the help of our Volunteer Team, to make the space more inviting, accessible and functional in the ways the public needs.”
A Grand Re-opening event for members will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Librarian & Archivist Trenton Carls will give tours of the new layout, discussing projects from the past year, displaying recent acquisitions, and sharing what is on the horizon for the CAM Library & Archives. There will be live music by local jazz musician Steve Lacey, light refreshments, and a small used book sale taking place in the atrium. The CAM Library Volunteer team will be on hand to discuss projects they have been working on and will answer any questions.
The public is invited to a Community Open House on Friday, Sept 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Throughout the day, Carls will be on hand to discuss the newly updated and reopened Library, showcasing recent acquisitions, walking visitors through recent digital exhibits and introducing many of the CAM Library Volunteers, without whom, none of this would be possible. On that day, there will be an encore Community Conversations event with the CAM Librarian & Archivist at 1 p.m. to share changes and plans, and seek input from the community about how to make the CAM Library & Archives a welcome and useful resource to all. The Museum’s Librarian & Archivist Trenton Carls shared that, “This is the moment we have been looking forward to since last March. While we have been very fortunate to have had this past year to connect with the community virtually and by appointment, we are eager for everyone to come back in and enjoy this space and CAM’s incredible collections.”

It’s that time of year again! Normally, we would be gearing up to host our annual fundraiser, the Great Gloucester GrowDown.
First, the Bad News. We’ve made the tough decision to cancel this year’s GrowDown. We’ve been watching the spread of the Delta variant closely, and feel that this is the best choice for us and our community.
Now, the Good News. While we are not hosting a traditional in-person event, and we know people are pretty maxed out on all things virtual, you can still support our work and help us pursue the expansion of Burnham’s Field Community Garden with a $100 (un)GrowDown ticket purchase that gives you access to:
🌿 A chance to win an installed double-high 8’x4’ raised garden bed filled with Black Earth Compost OR 3 GrowBags, plus a planting plan by Backyard Growers’ founder and executive director, Lara Lepionka. We’re giving away 2!

First, get the Cape Ann Waterfront Guide. It’s full of all the hot Gloucester and Rockport post season activity: ACT, SOLD and UAG properties, with prices, photos, remarks and data. Timely information you’ll need to make a smart decision when “OMGosh! That’s the one!” comes on the market.

Hi Joey, great pictures of the schooners this morning on GMG!
We had our mini-Aussie Shepherd Archie out on our boat to see the schooners on Saturday, it was a beautiful day.
He loves his polarized googles, protecting those bright blue eyes! Would look great on GMG!
Thanks

Hi Joey
I imagine you have a plethora of photos from yesterday. It was beautiful! Thought I’d share this one. “Jette” stole our hearts.

| Saturday, October 9th at 9 AM the International Dory Racing Committee will hold the annual Oarmaster’s Cup Race (solo dory race) to crown the best single dory rower in the land. All members are welcome to compete, and the public is welcome to attend the races for some exciting waterfront entertainment! (Rain date will be Sunday Oct 10th) |
| The course will start off the end of the dock at Maritime Gloucester and travel out around Ten Pound Island, then back to the start (approximately 1.75 miles). The race dories are provided by the IDRC, but unlike the other races, this race allows individual rowers to compete head to head in a time trial with the best time winning rights to the Cup. Refreshments will follow the races offering a chance for the winner to soak up the admiration of his peers. Don’t miss this battle of skill and endurance on the water in Gloucester Harbor. |

About your home from Jameson at Another Level Home Inspection LLC

Most homes we inspect have minimal to no forms of water damage protection from components on the interior and leakage. To think about preventing leakage from interior components it makes the most sense to think about where the moisture is and preventing as many of the potential issues with these components as possible.
Washer Machine – A washer machine is a common source of water damage. They are often installed in upper areas of the home in or above finished spaces where leakage would result in significant damage. We recommend installing a pan under every washer. A pan alone offers minimal leak prevention, and the key is adding an automatic water shutoff in the pan. If the pan starts to fill with water, it is detected, and the water shutoff is automatically activated. Another more basic upgrade is changing…

We normally have no tread slicks on teh front but they provided no traction so we went with these new tires that have a tread to them. I’ll let you know how we make out.

At least that’s how I read it the first time.

We hope you enjoy retirement!
